Nah, its normal - ships with

frigateRoleType "AntiFighter"
statCountType "FrigateAntiFighter"

don't auto-join fleets, even though their entity has autoJoinFleetDefault set to TRUE.

Its bloody annoying, but nothing new.

Ideed, it's same the for the equivalent ships from the other races too. And yes, it's annoying having to manually add them...

How can I recreate this? I built a single capitalship, made a fleet and then built an antifighter frigate. It joined up fine. What set of circumstances makes it fail?

It's the dominas and purge vessels (and other races equivalent) that won't auto-join. To summarise, I've noticed this behaviour with the following ships:

TEC: Krosov Siege Frigate
Advent: Purge Vessel
Vasari: Karrastra Destructor

TEC: Cielo Command Cruiser
Advent: Domina Subjugator
Vasari: Stilakus Subverter

If memory serves, siege frigates, colony ships, and scouts not joining was deliberate after feedback since for the most part these ships aren't wanted/needed in the thick of battle.

Annatar is correct in the expected behavior. However the antifighters should join up (and as far as I've seen they do).

I'm less certain about the support ships. I know the Vasari's phase-space-screwer-upper doesn't auto join, but it's the oddest ship of the bunch since its abilities don't have much to do with a fleet - but I'm fairly certain Cielos and Subjugators auto-join. It's one of those "long since I've paid attention to" things, though, so I might be off here. :P But yes, anti-fighter ships do auto join properly.

Ok, it makes sense regarding siege frigates (and of course colony ships and scouts), but why the support cruisers? They'll follow the fleet, but won't actually join it. And yeah, anti fighter frigates join fine.
