Computer Theft

My home was burglarized today while I was at work. My brand new computer, wide screen monitor and my $500 Samsung TV monitor were among the things stolen. They didn't take the old computer, thank God, because all of my stuff is still on it as I hadn't really gotten alot of my stuff transferred. Thankfully, I have not deleted anything that I had transferred. My question is concerning the fact that I did have Windowblinds, Object Dock Plus, Icon Packager and Impulse installed (they were among the first things I installed). I have changed my password for Wincustomize and all of my email accounts. Will this effectively prevent the use of Impulse on the stolen computer? In other words, will it prevent someone from updating and installing other features that I had not installed yet? Any help would be appreciated. I just pray that my home owners insurance willl help my replace that new system that I have had to wait 8 years for. I am really bummed out.

Sorry to hear that this happened Frankief.  I think the best thing for yot to do is contract [email protected].  I would explain the whole thing to them and let them suggest or make the needed changes.  Unfortunately this is probably not the first time that this has happen to a subscriber and member of the community so they should be able to handle it.

Chances are the folks that stole the computer probably have all ready move it to someone else for the money.

I wouldn't want to be in your position especially if you had transfered important info to the new computer.  Be sure and take enough time to think about what want on to it so you can go about changing things that need to be changed.

EDIT; Just going back over what you wrote and realized that you may have all ready contacted Stardock.

Sorry to hear this Frankief, it's a damned low act and I hope who ever did it gets their nut in a vice over it with the cops.

I also hope you get all your gear back, either by having it returned safely or replaced by insurance..

All the best with it, Frankief.... starkers. :)

Frankief:

Sorry to hear about that, it really makes me mad.  Usually your insurance should cover it, but make sure you stay on top of them.

Also, the important thing is to change your Stardock.net e-mail address.  You can do so here.

Most likely who ever stole your CPU will reformat the HD so your name and all information pointing to who ever own the machine would be erased. Sorry to hear your unfortunate troubles.

Sounds about right to me. I can only hope it happens when the 'puter shorts out and fries their thieving butts.

By the way: Since it probably is a Vista machine, maybe M$ can help catch the thief (or the receiver of the stolen goods) when your machine logs on to update Windows, etc.

Just a thought.

Sorry for your misfortune, but as you said, might be covered under your Homeowner's.
