DeskScapes 2.5 is coming!

Animated Wallpapers for XP!

Shortly after the release of Windows Vista last year, Stardock introduced DeskScapes to users of Windows Vista Ultimate which added  featured like dynamic .dreams, triggered .dreams, etc.  We also launched Dream.WinCustomize.Com which is the official site to find more animated wallpapers (.dreams) for use with DeskScapes.  Later, we launched DeskScapes 2.0 which brought the ability for nearly all Vista users to have animated wallpapers on their desktops.

However, the one comment we always get is “I want to use these on XP”.   That was always an issue because Vista had much more resources available to make animated wallpapers more feasible, but with the advancement of video drivers and the technology behind Stardock DeskScapes…..

I’m happy to say to Windows XP users that DeskScapes 2.5 will bring .dreams to your desktop!

Oh sure, just throw something else into the mix so that the question of updating my computer just gets more confusing.

I've been hoping this was around the corner. I just hope my video card and single-core CPU won't choke on these! :)

I haven't even tried this out on Vista yet. It's not "up there" for me. Is it any good?

The ability to force a screensaver to run under Descapes (efficiently) would be really cool.  Don't suppose that's in this release?

I wonder if this release will fix Deskscapes for me on my vista basic machine... If not, then all the more reason to switch to XP!!!

I know this question will probably not be answered until the release but I just starting using Stardock Visrtual Desktop (SVD) on my XP system, wonder how the Deskscapes (animated wallpapers) will work with it? :-"

I can't get it to work with multiple desktops either Philly0381 and I'm on Vista, so I imagine they will not have tackled that issue yet. If there is a work around I haven't seen it. Not that it matters much my desktop is usually blocked, but some darn fine dreams have been released that I don't end up using as I have more than one monitor. Still always nice to see updates to it.

I'll show interest when there's support for more than one screen. Or even just the ability to just have it running on one screen, and the others displaying normal wallpaper.

While this is a welcome announcement*, I'd be MUCH more excited if Stardock had shown any ability to update and support any of the .dreams people have PAID for over the past year(s).  Meaning that there has been almost NIL support of the actual .dreams since the main program's release.  No SDK, no updates, few commercial releases...

...and even those have been inexplicably poorly supported.  And yes I am talking first and foremost about PHOTO COLLAGE.  A release so rushed to market it didn't even come with a random photo sort function or the ability to read image subdirectories recursively.  This is made even more inexplicable by the fact that another Stardock released commercial .dream, PHOTODREAM, has BOTH of these bits of code already in it...ahem.

As such, it appears to me that we're all about to get yet another version of this completely unsupported application for yet another operating system, thereby exciting, then frustrating, and finally disappointing a whole new batch of end users.  :(

Sorry to be such a pisser about this, but the potential of creating .dreams to take the ideas of DesktopX to the next level, interface wise, have not escaped me.  Perhaps Stardock felt they needed to have Dreamscapes working across XP and Vista before going to the next step, integrating it throughout their product line. I completely understand that line of thinking.

But with the SDK still not anywhere in sight, it just looks like we're all stuck with the gimmick instead of the potential a while longer.  :(

Maybe that's the plan for Dreamscapes 3.0.  We can only hope.

* I love Deskscapes on Vista, but VLC has had the ability to play videos as people's XP desktop backgrounds for years.

I tend to agree with few of the lasts posts... I got into the Stardock bandwagon because of Deskscapes. But unlike other utilities like WindowsBlinds, IconPackager and the like neither Deskscapes nor ObjectDock Plus seem to get enough support and attention from their developers. I have posted several issues to support just to get... we have passed them back to the developers. It's almost a year form DeskScapes to get to 2.0 and there are still plenty bugs and problems with it... a new buggy & unsupported version gives me the creeps.
