To Tab or not to Tab

To Tab or not to Tab

Okay, so I take it that all browsers these days have a tab function now.

So my question is do you use the tab function?

If you do, is it because it's usefull or because it's just there?

If you don't, why?

I'm just starting to use the function in my browser, and was just wondering what other folks are doing. |-)

EDIT:  The reason I didn't mention what browser I was using was I didn't want this to turn into 'mine is better than yours'.  I use IE8 beta.  I have always used IE, that's not to say that other browsers are as good or better.

I love tabs. It's one of the reasons I switched to FireFox, although IE now has it as well, still. At my job, I already have about 7 windows open from the various programs I use to do my work, many are from a single program with several transaction windows to perform different functions, tabing may actually be beneficial at times for this particular program but at the same time it would not always allow to look at more than 1 screen at a time without switching back and forth.

because it's a job PC, I am unable to install FF on it, but I do have a portable drive and was able to install Portable Apps on it and us the portable version of FF. Now I can use tabs and open many sites while not taking up more space on the task bar. Pluse I get to use the nice feature of opening multiple tabs at one time when opening FF, although it's a bit annoying when I hit the home page button and 3 more new tabs open. I wish someone made an add-on (not sure if there is one) that would make FF open all the tabs we want to open when first run without having to add all those websites to the "home page" section of the options.

If you are on the first tab (left most) and hit the home button, does it still open 3 new tabs or does it just refresh the ones already open?  I know when I hit the home button, I try to be on the left most tab so it won't open new ones.

So far it always opens new tabs, even when the same original tabs are still open.

Understand...but are you ON the left most tab when you do it?  (Sorry, your answer didn't answer that).  When I have 4 tabs open, and I'm on the second tab and hit home, that one (the second one) becomes the same page as what my left most tab was.  Then the third becomes the second and so on.  So in essence, it opens 1 new tab at the end.  I end up with 5 tabs instead of 4.  But when I hit home from the leftmost tab, it just refreshes the tabs.  Confused yet? XD
