Instant Messengers and Objectdock

I am trying to use my instant mesenger service (Trillian, but I've also tried this with AIM). I can add the icon to the objectdock to launch the messenger program, but then the program never shows up. In my task manager, it shows that it is, indeed, running.

My co-worker said that this was because I had my regular taskbar hidden. When I unhide the taskbar, I can load the instant messenger just fine. But the whole point of me using the objectdock was to eliminate the need for the regular taskbar.

Right now I have the taskbar autohide until I can figure this out. I hate it though cause whenever I accidentally mouse over that area, it pops up.

Does anyone know how to get my messenger to load correctly from the Objectdock AND keep my main taskbar hidden all the time?

Thanks!

Hey Nikkichan,

I do have the same problem with you, but I am using "OD" Plus.

Lets just hope that the support team can give us a very good response as to how to solve this problem.

Anyway, I am having far too much issues with this software, really regretted paying for it as it crashes my window & I believe this software has far too much problems.

okay feel special because i created an account on here and everything JUST to answer your question haha

i too was having trouble with this and i use trillian in the task bar so much that it really made me mad so this is what i did. (now, it looks like a LOT to do but seriously it's easy. i figured it out in about 2 minutes.)

- go into your trillian settings
- go to 'contact list' on 'access and position'

- make sure trillian CANNOT be docked. that is, uncheck the option where it docks when it's near a side. you have to do this to get it to work but don't worry if you like your buddy list docked because even if the docking option is off, trilly still grabs onto the nearest side, so you can click and drag the edges until it's attached wherever you like
- after that, CHECK the box that says 'show contact list as a task in Windows Taskbar when not docked'

* what this does is allows trillian to go as a button on the taskbar when minimized, when normally it would just go to the small icon in the tray. Since you won't see your windows taskbar anyhow, it won't matter where it minimizes to

- next what you have to do is open your objectbar settings
- go to the 'dock contents' tab
- make sure the 'display open windows along with my icons' is ON
- below that in 'taskbar options' you want to make sure that you have one of those boxes checked (for however you want it to show up. this will probably already be done. i have the screenshot one selected so that my icon is the actual buddy list, so i don't confuse it with the real icon to start trillian)

now

what you have to do is, instead of hitting the 'hide' button in the upper right-hand corner of your trillian buddy list window every time you want it to go away, you have to click the icon itself in the objectbar taskbar. this minimizes it to your windows taskbar, which you can hide, like you want to do anyhow. just click the icon on the objectbar taskbar again to bring it back up. get used to using that to expand/reduce your buddy list, and you'll be good to go!

One thing that might work as a simple thing to try first.

-Go into the install directory

-Create a shortcut to the .exe file of the message software and leave it where it is.

-Drag it onto the dock to make a shortcut of a shortcut.

See if that works for you.
