Buildings

improve them!

I think buildings in the Demigod beta are lacking in design.

1. The looks: the scale is out of the window

The idea of a growing Stronghold is good, but it only grows vertically. And above all, it's small to begin with. It's not impressive. It should start much bigger and grow much bigger.

All the buildings are way too smal IMO. Assaulting a castle or a tower with Minotaurs is like assaulting a (big) sand castle. The tiniest creature is half the size of a tower. The smallest demigod is larger than a powerful tower?!?

To me, buildings should simply be twice as big. Why? Because epic battles and assaults should take place in impressive environments. The Rook could be made slightly bigger also. You don't want kickass Demigods to fight against buildings that look like toys.

Building with appropriate scale = Epicness = awe inspiring factor.

2. The looks: item shops

They are ugly. They should be bigger, have real and different textures, and signs / symbols to reflect what you can buy in them.

Seriously, they look like temples for dolls, are the size of chests rather than actual temples. It's lackluster.

3. The strategy: new buildings could be bought to help with defending certain zones, produce additional special units, etc. Your camp could look like a real base of operation, with strategic targets that appear in the course of the game, to spice things up.

The item shops are probably only placeholders anyway, I wouldn't get too worried about them as word is they'll be replaced with a single one stop shop instead.

Good to know, thanks for the info (they were too ugly to be real thingies!), but my other points remain, especially about the scale feeling.

Well i think the growing verticly is good, if only for hte reason "what happens when it grows and someone is standing there?"

And well most of hte item shops need to go away and just have 1 shop with tabs, and an upgrade/blacksmith shop :)

What I mean is that yes, the Stronghold should grow only vertically, but it should be much larger to begin with. Like "impressive" to begin with, and "Awe inspring" in the middle of a match and "overwhelming" in the last stages. It could even get damaging capabilities at certain stages.

And all basic defense buildings, towers, forts, are definitely too small, not only in height but also in width. Regulus, tiny Demigod, is larger than a Tower, WTF??? The Rook could just grab a tiny tower in a hand instead of smashing it. It just looks weird to me that the buildings don't look threatening, although they do quite a lot of Damages.

To be blunt: buildings seem that they were imported from Warcraft 3, whereas everything else look so much better and impressive. The game engine can certainly take on bigger buildings.

Yeah, the scale of the buildings is a very important factor in the scale discussion. I don't think the towers should be noticably larger than the rook, because he's a walking castle, but I think that all the demigods should be made bigger to various extents, and buildings to a larger degree.

im going to reply to ur points out of in order but using the same numbers u did

point 2 i believe gpg said that they are planning to consolidate the item builings or change them in some way so just hold off on that though because i believe we will see it change soon.

point 1 i think the towers should be a little big bigger. they just dont look very threatening

point 3 gonna address this point in chunks

new buildings could be bought to help with defending certain zones, produce additional special units, etc.

....

strategic targets that appear in the course of the game, to spice things up.

End of quote

well the rook can make towers so thats similar to that and the generals will have the ability to get special units we have heard so hold off on those thoughts

um well at least in this first map there is that center flag im not really sure if it doesnt anything yet could anyone possibly enlighten me to its purpose? i should think we will see more things in other maps to fight over to "spice things up" u can also take over their portals if u want to

Last I heard, it raises your "War Level" by one. Making the level of creeps spawned higher.

More, not higher lvl :)

But about the buildings. Well, i gathered some informations on creatures and searched all the folders of the install folder for stuff. And i've seen some buildings like Blacksmith / Armory and some more, which increase power or defensive abilites etc.

I think they're for the Generals, since they need them to spawn + upgrade their minions,  i guess.

Dont worry, just wait a little while. During this 1Beta only vvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeery less has been implemented.

So long,

Aspartem

I think the shop-buildings should be redesign to look more impressive(at least twice the size with a decent design) and specific in the game.

Because for now, it's difficult to me to see the difference without the textbox or knowing where they are.

Otherwise, in general, buildings should be resizing to be higher and larger (but not that much).

And what abour mercenaries as special units ? Will there be some special buildings to recruit them ? Should be great :D

Yep, I'm thinking the same. The ability for General to recruit special mercenaries would be nice.

And yes, again and again, buildings in this game need to be bigger = more impressive.

The generals will have units unique to each one.

what I want to know is, if it will be possible to upgrade the creeps with gold or if we will just have to wait XX minutes for the stronghold to upgrade itself like it does now??

I'm thinking they're going to upgrade at different times. Otherwise there is no reason to make the announcement that:

  • The forces of X upgraded!
  • The forces of Y upgraded!

at the exact same time and not just say:

  • The forces upgraded!

So there were have to be some sort of factor, be it Flag capturing or controlling gold mines. I don't think "buying" it would be a fun factor, who'd be stuck doing that while the other Demigods are buffing themselves with armor?
