Torch-Bearer Reverts To Ice Form While Still In Fiery Mode

I am not sure what triggers this.

I switch to his fiery mode and suddenly, just as he enters his burning graphic phase, the graphics revert to his normal ice countenance. He is also once again upon the ground. As far as I can tell all abilities are as per fire mode, with fire abilities available as normal, just his representation is incorrect.

Pretty rare. Might require  a lot of action occurring around him for it to happen.

UPDATE

The Torch-Bearer is frozen or stunned while in fire mode. When he comes out of it, sometimes (?) he is erroneously in ice form.

Ahhhhh, that makes sense now. Is it stunning him while he's transforming? In that case I think it means that he's been stunned after he transforms, but before the changed effect is applied.

Hey all, wanted to drop in and give an update on the Torchbearer.

In the next build:

  • Torchbearer can toggle between ice and fire at will.
  • Deep Freeze at higher levels adds a movement and attack speed slow.
  • Permafrost has an additional level, which adds an aura based mana regeneration.
  • Rain of Fire has been removed to make room for Frozen Heart(How you transition back to ice mode)
  • Fire Aura has an additional leve, which adds an fire based dot to the Torch Bearers attacks.
  • Ring of Fire has been changed to Circle of Fire and is targeted.

Interesting. So the Fire mode gets more focussed on AoE/PBAoE attacks and the Ice mode gets focused on snares and auras? That seems an interesting choice of design decisions, given that you can select your skills as you go on up the chain.

ETA on next build, in a loose sense? I was never clear if we're going with a fast-build-cycle and incrimental changes or a longer build cycle with lumps. (In my opinion, the first results in better development, but that's me.)

HOT! Sorry, you probably haven't read checkerboard nightmare  . Great webcomic.

Okay, back OT. I find it interesting that the Rain of Fire is gone, that was a good AoE, but the targeting of Ring of Fire and Fire Aura's update should make up for that nicely. I like that change. The change to deep freeze sounds good, a bit like what innociv wants so badly for freezing. I really like those changes, they all sound good. :congrat:

The visual part of this will be fixed in the next beta update. The mesh effect that is applied when a unit gets stunned or frozen, isn't resetting the unit to the correct original state afterwards. This occurs for some unit that have multiple mesh techniques, e.g. Grunts, Torchbearer, Tower's of Light.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. Surprised I didn't notice that he'd gotten knocked down by a stun before. Too busy barbequeing, I guess.

very cool glad to hear that torchy is getting an upgrade

yea, I'm also glad. I love him, and this should make him even more fun to play. It's funny that most of the torchy fans (me included) seem to call him that, it's kind of a funny nickname  .

Good changes. Nice to see some additional effects coming from later ranks now too, instead of only +damage or +duration to the original abilities.

Will the circle of fire be made up of 32 dmg stacking segments like ring of fire?

Targetable, will make killing rook even easier.

No, the new Circle of Fire will be area damage that ticks periodically.

Cool. Its always nice to hear devs who acknowledge things (!) like this. Also nice to hear (thanks other guy... as well as the others who posted) that Yee Olde Torch-Bearer is being tweaked. Mind you, I really like him now, though I am not averse this early in the game`s game (clever bit of english, wasn`t that? Ay? AAAAAyyyy?...).

The Torch-Bearer is admittedly thus far my favourite character from a fiction standpoint, although the Rook is terribly inventive as well. Can`t say I am crazy for the Angel crossbowman... but then again one can`t expect every role to have personal appeal. Besides, it makes KILLING him much more satisfying...

Anyway, thank you for the feedback. Will continue 'working' on the beta...

(grin labouriously)

That sounds excellent, it'll be a good replacement for rain of fire, but cooler.
