How Do I Change the Start Button?

I'm new to this (please keep that in mind) however I pretty much have figured out how to tweak a particular theme that I like with one exception---the start button.  It's probably something incredibly basic but I can't seem to figure it out.

I thought I could just change the original "taskbarstartbutton.tga" and that would do the trick, but it doesn't.  The correct image is there but it acts like a scrolling animation.  Obviously I'm missing something.  What exactly needs to be changed to so that the button functions like a normal start button?

Any help would be appreciated.    |-)

If it keeps rolling sounds like a frame count issue .Default is 5

1 normal

2 pressed

3 disabled

4 mouse over

5 focus/ default

make sure you have these frames in your new image and that the frame count is set to five as well

(These are default settings)

Hope it helps ;)

Thanks...checked and it's still doint the same thing.  I've taken the .tga from another theme and applied it.  It has the same frame count as the original so I thought it would work, but no.  Any other ideas?  Would the fact that I'm using a start button from another theme have anything to do with it?

Questions???

Do you have a good graphics program such as Photoshop or maybe Paintshop Pro?

If you do then edit the image with that program - by using the edit button inside of SKS. Thus you can see more of what you are trying to do with the image itself.

Most start buttons are made for each skin and are not easily changed from one to another. Most especially that of copy and pasting tga images. The proper image to work with is a png which is what the edit feature for SKS will give you in the editing for the image. Then after you edit the image save as a png and then import the image back into the skin from a drop down menu at the same place where the edit is found with the start button image in the skin. The program will convert the png image back into a proper format as a tga image.

There is avery good tutorial for all of this in basic format found here at this link

https://www.stardock.com/products/skinstudio/help/toc.htm

The tutorial is basic as I said! A good working knowledge of a graphics program such the likes as Photoshop and/or Paintshop Pro is another consideration. If you do not have either you should consider purchasing one and learning how to use it via tutorials provided on the web. Just do a search for them and see if there is something that will help you with what you are trying do and/or learn to do.

Good luck I wish I could help you more!

Thank you so much for the information!  You've been very helpful.

I do have Paint Shop Pro. I'll give it a try.
