Poor frame rates

I'm using a computer that is an

and I use broadband. For some reason when I play the game the game has poor frame rates and thus stutters. Also, the character models are either non-existant, I only know where my Demigod is by the ring underneath the model, or the visual is stuck on the map for a few minutes. The small army guys' visuals are either non-existant, only a shadow is there, stuck or they are all pure black. I also have 23G of free space on my computer, and I'm running the visuals on the lowest possible setting. Any help please?

I have similar PC, Dell Dimension 5150, and same graphics card. I posted initially that I had the Radeon x300 but I actually had the X600 like you. Anyways, Turns out your problem is your graphics card. View my post below.

Yes, sadly the X300 or X600 is just so outdated that it is safe to say "you need a new graphic card" :)

Yeah, your graphics card doesn't have SM3 and can't render the game correctly.

Bring your PC to a local computer store (call first), and have them change your old ATI card for a more recent ATI card : you now can get a much better one (than yours) for under 80 $. Some stores will change the card on the spot, especially if you can keep the same ATI drivers : just doing the physical operation of removing & inserting videocards is relatively quick & easy to do -- unless it is a sophisticated, monster model which has some special space, cooling and wiring requirements. (You might have a friend who knows how to do it.)

Ah jeeze. I live in Ireland and I'm a poor broke college student. I'd kill for €80 for just a weeks worth of budget. Ironically, I'll be starting college in my first year as a Computer Games Designer. It hurts

I did not suggest paying 80 euros for a minimally decent ATI-type videocard, but less than 80 dollars ($) -- which is 56 euros, converted from 80 US dollars. Since I live in Canada, I was thinking in Canadian dollars, which means even less : 52.7 euros.

A small, local store near where I live sells those 2 cards, which should run Demigod with good framerates :

Ati Radeon Sapphire 2600 Pro 512 Megs Pcie -- 73 CAN dollars = 48 euros

Ati Radeon Sapphire 3650 512 Megs Pcie      --  64 CAN dollars = 42 euros

Those are not great cards, but they'll do the job -- significantly below the 80-euro price-level. I wish you good ... luck.

He would not have the cash for such an upgrade ! By the way, my Intel processor is 4½-year old : a Northwood P4 that is older than a Pentium D. Its 2.8GHz single core handles Demigod very well (having 2 GB of RAM must help). My problem is that my 3-year old, AGP GeForce 6800 requires that I turn off shadows & AA : if I do that, I get very good framerates.
