Can't play all races in Twilight of Arnor (v. 1.96)

I am having problem with approximately half of the races. The game crashes to the desktop after I have chosen the race and are about to begin the game (gigantic map). The problem is persistent and always the same races, among them arcean, drath, iconian and yor. I have no custom maps or ships, it is a clean installation from Stardock central.
