Okay, so now that we all have huge avatars the forums need to be updated

They just look out of place on WC because WC hasn't received the upgrade yet.

So, I thought while I was at it, I would update my screenshot but can't get it to apply. The upload is successful but the image keeps changing back. Have logged out and cleared cache but no go!

The load times for animated avatars would be horrible on the forums.

why? i've seen other sites that can load more than 50 comments with users using animated avatars (like deviantart.., and yes, i'm in love with that site >:] )

Animated images are more taxing on resources, just look at any of those animated gif-laden threads, they're a nightmare. Then, imagine that on EVERY thread. Nothing like having a bunch of annoying, flashing, distracting images pulling attention away from the actual content of the posts.

Not to mention...they're tacky. Awful flashbacks of 1990s era angelfire sites (or today's myspace sites, ha) loaded with a bunch of random ass animated gifs. X(

Sure...some could be artfully done, like the sparkle on my halo, would be nice if it had a subtle twinkle. But, what's to stop a bunch of people from making horribly done, epileptic seizure-inducing monstrosities? I'll stick with static images thankyouverymuch. ;P

I have to agree here!

If they were ever implemented it should be done on a url type setting so anyone using them would have to find their own host .This would keep Stardock's band width down and not impact the loading of the text (to bad )

IMO :)

I just tried to do it both on Impulse and here .. and 80 x 80 px version of my current avatar ...

... No such luck ... I will wait for the forum upgrade ..

OK...I updated too, and it worked. With any hope, I'm using 60x60 because the 100x100 is too messy with WC's current layout...

Seems this is messy too

oh common Bebi.., i dont think a little 50x50 animated avatar could take all' your attention.., it's a matter of focus! if the main problem is that the forum or the entire site could collapse becouse of using animated avatars, then we can use theAVMan's solution, by hosting that avatar in another site and use the URL link. ;)

The Wincustomize and Stardock forums are getting the bump after Labor Day, as are JoeUser and the Impulse Community. I didn't want to get a phone call whilst fishing on vacation that something wasn't working right.

The rest of the sites will incrementally get updated to support the larger avatars (so please, pretty please, dont report that as a problem). It's going to take some time, so please be patient.
