ObjectDock Plus & System Tray

Is there a way to add a dock or get OD Plus to display my System Tray?  I am trying to get rid of the Windows Task Bar and replace with OD Plus.  I have several applications that run in the ST, so I really need to see or access it.

Thanks!  Cheers...

Okay, so I found that OD Plus cannot be installed over the top of OD Freeware. I uninstalled the Freeware version and re-installed OD Plus and things are looking up. I have found an option for displaying the System Tray. Now a new question has arisen; Is there a way to "button-ize" the system tray? I don't necessarily want it showing all the time as the images are horrible looking compared to OD images.

Thanks in advance! Cheers...

Which dock are you using to show the system tray, zoomer or tabbed? Go into configuration and pick a display option like hide off screen when not in use.  ;)

I think he meant changing the icons of the system tray ;)

I would just make a dedicated tabbed dock for the sys tray. ;)

I say that's what I'd do because that's what I did.

I for one do the same. On one machine I have it set up with one "zoomer" dock at the bottom that runs the main links and open windows. A much smaller sized zoomer contains all of my systemtray at the top of the monitor.

As for changing the icons I don't think that is possible. However I could swear we figured out a trick to do it that is outside the normal settings of Object Dock. If anyone comes accost it I would like to know. If I find anything myself I will post again.

Since you're talking about OD plus, I just bought it after using the free version for years and now I'm lost! Is there a tut or something explaining how to do some of this stuff that wasn't in free OD? Like, how do i change the BG on the side dock? And also, after I drag and drop my desktop icons onto the dock, I can't delete them because it says it can't find the link! Help! I feel like an idiot!

You can [ctrl]-left click on systray icons to change them.  The down-side is that they ceases to be dynamic if you do.  So your little icon that flashes won't.

OK, never mind about changing the side docks, I figured that out at least!

A good start is the wiki: http://wiki.wincustomize.com/wiki/ObjectDock

Delete them from the desktop or from the dock?  If you drag a shortcut to the dock the dock icon doesn't link to the original app, it links to the desktop shortcut.  So if you delete the desktop shortcut OD doesn't have anywhere to go.

You should find the root file or app and drag THAT to the dock for the best results.

That was it. Thanks for that. I remember now why most people choose the smaller dock suggestion instead of the changed icon. With so many notifications coming through the systray it is something of a determent.

This option:

seems to disagree. And even with it selected it still points to the shortcut.

Or am I misunderstanding what the option does?

That is correct. When installed that is defaulted to on as well. If you are having your short cuts link to the desktop short cuts you are either on an old version or you have this turned off. You can find it under settings > general > Miscellaneous options

Thanks for the advice. I added the SysTray tab to my top bar and this is pretty dang close to what I want. I am not sure if this is possible, but what I was referring to was to have a "button" similar to the Start button that when clicked would display all the SysTray icons. Might be asking too much, but I think that'd be much cooler then having all the icons displayed in the tabbed view or showing on the bottom dock.

Thanks again!!! Cheers...
