Nvidia problem - nv4_disp bsod error

even with updated drivers

hi all
so i eagerly install sins and start it up and every single time it crashes at the very beginning -  it seems to be trying to play the video because the sound starts for a second and then starts looping and after another few seconds of black screen i get a BSOD giving an error message of nv4_disp....infinite loop...
quite a common poblem by the looks of other help forums but whereas most people have downloaded the new drivers and that seemed to work - mine are completely up to date and still the problem persists.
My system is:

Asus P5B mobo
intel core 2 duo 6600
1 GB corsair ram
Nvidia Geforce 7900 GTO

Any help appreciated

Are they up to date from the nvidia website?

You may want to try going to the user.setting file and disabling the intro videos and see if that helps.

sorry how do i do that?
and yep all drivers completely up to date...
at the moment its looking like the card is faulty but if you tell me how to get rid of the intro videos then i can see what happens
many thanks

The user.setting file is in the appdata/application data/something like that file.

In Vista (Similar in XP), I think it goes:
Users/AppData/Local/Ironclad Games/Sins of a Solar Empire/Setting

Sorry, not at home so I don't have it on hand to check.

chrisradio,

Here's quoting myself from a similar thread.

Tankdogg26,

Sometimes uninstalling the video driver completely helps in clearing out "old" driver data.

something to try:

1. go to "add/remove programs" and uninstall your video driver.

2. go to "device manager" and actually uninstall your video card.

3. reboot the machine, wait for it to "detect" your video card, then re-install the latest ATI drivers. Then reboot again.

Something else. I help out in several flight-sim communities as well and one issue that has been plaquing these communities is intro-movie-crashes (ie. the gamer never gets to see the main game title screen)

One culprit has been a certain video codec called DDFshow which can either be installed by itself or along with other codecs from a codec pack (ie. like the DivX codec-packs etc.) Once this codec is removed, everything works as it should.

Check into it and post back.

Give those suggestions a try..... ;-)
