Not a fan of Impulse

So I have been trying to download the beta patch for Sins for the last couple hours.

I have seen so many errors on multiple levels that this isn't really a good first impression of the tool.  I get errors trying to login.  "Can't connect to servers..."  "Can't retrieve data..." "Error downloading..." Stuck at "Download Starting..."  Now I am stuck at "Processing Files..."

Is this really better than just providing a download link?  I understand that this tool is really about selling more product but if you are going to try and cram more products down people's throats, the tool better damn well do the basics perfectly.

I'm just so tired of the marketing weenies getting involved and conjuring up new ideas to collect, track, and sell more STUFF.  Meanwhile, the basics are totally glazed over...basics like um...patching...

I've always been a fan of Stardock because of their approach and philosophies to software, copy protection, updates, you name it but this isn't good.  If this is the wave of the future for Stardock products, I am going to have to think twice about my future purchases.

Please click the blue ORB in the upper-left (when in IMPULSE) and under "preferences" make sure to enable "the new download mechanism".

thanks,

Like kryo said once, "It's new and imperfect" ;)

If you look at the Impulse forum, their devs and support guys watch it like hawks, and jump on issues quickly. There have been a lot of fixes so far, and they only keep coming.

If you have specific issues, you should really post them on the Impulse boards so the devs can take a look and get them fixed.

Traffic is really high due to the beta release email being sent out.

Everyone who loves the game is downloading the beta now.  As you start your next multiplayer game compare download times.  It may give you even more incentive to kick some ass.  ;)

I also notice that it's all based in the US, with a choice of two servers to go to. It's a good thing everyone lives in the good ol' USA then, eh? I've heard rumours that I actually live in Europe, but dont tell the devs.

End of quote

Not like you have to go to the U.S. to download it.

Plus, Stardock is not a big company.. they can't really afford having server farms all over the world.
