Combat Logs

Maybe I missed it, but is there a way to see combat logs from a battle? or series of battles.

not only would this be a great feature from the players perspective, but also for testing.    A break down showing damage each vessel did/received, to home, how often their 'specials' were used. I have seen something similar in other 4x games (can't recall off the top of my head, MOO series, Space Empires?) and more recently World of Warcrafts combat log.  The in-game display doesn't need to be that extensive as long as the data can be out put to a text file of some kind then that can be used to 'analyze' the different battles (long live Excel!) and for those of us with a knack for coding can whip up our own Stats/Analysis type programs for it.

As a follow up to James(?) post regarding Strike Craft being the 'ultimate' weapon in this game.

I created a very large custom map (16 stars, 128+ planets) put in myself and 4 AI empires all on Normal Difficulty and Random for everything else (still learning the game so bear with me)

About 8 hours into the game I would get attacked by one TEC AI with a massive fleet that had 1 Capital ship and something like 40 carriers, 20 or so Command Cruisers, and 20 or so Robotic Cruisers and 20 or so Heavy Cruisers.  The end result was a heavy reliance on Strick Craft, with the Command Cruisers/Robotic Cruisers not adding much additional Fire Power.

On the other hand I did put about 20 Defenderst (Advent) into my fleet and won the following battle quite handidly with about 1/2 the forces.  I also stacked alot more craft with actual firepower (and 6 Captial Ships)

PS: And good job on the great game!

Cheers.

For each and every ship produced? That sounds a bit daunting just to look at...

Yes it could be a bit daunting.
Go with 3 modes.
a) No combat logging (the Default)
b) Basic Combat logging. (over all stats only, i.e. total # of ships destroyed of the various types)
c)Advanced Combat Logging (logs everything under the sun and hope to hell you have the computer/memory to handle it. This one would primarily benefit Devs/Testers for Balancing, bug hunting/squashing etc...)

:)
