BOOTSKIN ON WINDOWS 98??

BootSkin on Windows 98?

Hello everyone.

I have made a Mini-OS for an Internet Cafe.

Since the Mini-OS is on Windows 98 (Because the computer is powerfull enough but old and doesnt support a higher version of Windows), I would like to cover the BootScreen up so no one know its really Windows 98.

So I thought of Stardock BootSkin. But the only problem is that I visited the description page and it says that it runs on Windows 2000 & XP.

I Was wondering if there is still a possibility of puting it on there.

Thanks in Advance.

Win98 have a much easier bootscreen to hack. I forgot which file, but it's just a specially altered bitmap, but you can just use regular bitmap (it won't have animations) however.

Probably not... however there is a freeware proggie called Desktop Architect which was written for 98 and replaces boot/startup screens, icons, cursors, taskbar and window frames, etc. It should do what you want and more,

Available here... WWW Link at PC World. You can also find themes and boot/startup screens there at PC World also. There are also theme sites, like the Penniless Prophet, but be careful of the executable files they are packaged in, as they can sometimes contain additional, unwanted files.

Hope this helps/is of use to you. :)

\windows\logow.sys .... it's a renamed bmp file...so [make a backup] ...rename to logow.bmp ....open in paint/whatever and alter.

Will appear distorted ...but as long as you save whatever image you make to the same proportions...and rename it back to logow.sys ....have fun.

You can also alter the BSOD to any colour you like....[can't remember the proggy used]....Umber is a good colour...cos then it's....

U SOD ...;)
