Through the Static on the Phone

I can hear you crying
through the static on the phone
one thousand miles away
but still evoking emotions from long ago
not the same as before
but from before, long ago
it seems

I can hear the pain I caused
through the static on the phone
thousands of days ago

I can hear you laughing
through the static on the phone
the laugh I’ve missed
one thousand times
But not in the same way
The way you miss a song
from long ago
The familiarity of it all

I can hear the joy I caused
through the static on the phone
thousands of days ago

Why does this not effect me?
Or am I dealing with it
as I did long ago?

I can hear you voice
Through the static on the phone
Thousands of miles
Thousands of days
ago and away
The voice I want to hear
But its not the same as before
Older, Wiser, Younger, Dumber
All in one

I am glad
I still get to hear that voice
through the static on the phone

Rat is this written about a certain person I that I might know? I'm sure you can figure out who I am. Please post a comment on where your thoughts came from when you composed this.I am thinking maybe Colorado or Arizona. Let me know.

Well, I truly and honestly have no idea who this is. I will answer the question though. This was written after a long conversation with a friend who currently subsides in Oregon. The conversation rehashed the past in pleasant and unpleasant ways and brought up feelings of both as well. It is simply a retrospect of the conversation and the emotions I felt and could tell were being felt.

May I claim this as my own...? Because it feels all too familiar, all too close, to claim for anyone but us. You still have my tears, friend.
