OK, seriously computer ignorant old woman here.  I bought Galatic Civitions II Gold Edition, which includes Dark Avatar, from Amazon.  I installed it and played it, worked fine.  Then I came here, registered it and updated it--now when I try to start the game, it tells me to run setup.exe on the disc or reinstall from Stardock--can't find setup.exe don't understand why I should reinstall from Stardock.

Is the launcher showing an install button instead of a play button? If so, it sounds like something is missing in the windows registry, but you should be able to open up windows explorer and head to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 [\DarkAvatar] and run the games directly.

Meanwhile, if you contact [email protected] they should be able to help with the registry issue to get the launcher working again for you.

Thank you for your help--fortunately I had already fiddled about with it until I finally figured it out and got it to work--don't ask me how, me getting anything to work on a computer is at least partially a matter of sheer dumb luck and a lot of poking at it until something happens. Thank you again--I lurk a lot on the forums of the games I play, trying to learn how to manage my games--I don't especially miss board games but they were a lot easier play.
