Question: Trade routes

1: Is there any point in making a chain of trading ports along a path? or is one port on each end of the galaxy fine?

2: along the same line of thought... if every planet has a port, will the drones fly to the furthest port, or the nearest port before calculating income?

3: Is there any point in putting multiple trading ports at both ends of a trade route? Will one port each do the same job?

thank you in advance

1. The longer the chain, the higher your overall trade income.

2. Not entirely sure. With a port at every planet, though, your chain won't be as long as it could. Consider:

------ A
|
------ B

Where each line is a link on your trade route. The chain from A to B gets shorter if you build trade ports anywhere else.

3. More trade ports per planet == more income at that planet.

The chain actually counts planets with trade ports only, so you need a tradeport at each planet if you want to make a chain. So if you have A -- B -- C with tradeports at A and C, there's no chain and no bonus income. But if you put one at B, all 3 planets now get a bonus from being along the chain.

You can only have one bonus "chain", and that's whichever route is the longest uninterrupted, so it can shift around a bit as you expand.

Hover the mouse over the credits ticker, and your longest chain will be highlighted.

Going with this line of thought, does it then make more sense to expand out in a straight line (at least in earlier stages of the game), instead of grabbing everything near you, if you plan on doing the trade routes?

Additionally, I don't like that trade ports stack ... just doesn't make sense to me. It would make more sense to be able to upgrade your trade port structures, maybe...

As far as I can tell the chain does not have to start or finish at your home world, as such expand in all directions.

Not necessarily, as planets closest to your homeworld will have a higher allegiance than those father way and therefore higher income, thus higher trade bucks. Also, you probably colonized them earlier so they will have a higher population.

Depending on your race and how many of a certain type of planet you have, you may be better off researching higher population caps as this also increases income (over time)without having to build anything.

allegiance doesn't affect trade income, and later in the game with a trade chain of 5-6 planets, you can have a trade income of 120-150 creds/sec., so don't count out trade as a viable option.
