Mod installation problems...

I downloaded a few mods and was looking to copy and paste them into the appropriate folder (I'm on Vista), but much to my chagrin, there was no Sins where it should be. I couldn't even find an 'AppData' folder in my user drive. I found Sins eventually, installed in the location of C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire, but there was no mod folder in there, either. When I tried creating one with the mod data I wanted to use, it screwed up the program and forced a re-install. Can anyone help me with this?
