How to start a game?

Hello,

When you have all the three pieces installed (base+Avatar+Twilight) you have 3 icons on the desktop. If I want to play a normal game (not a campaign), is there a difference which icon to start with?

Yes. It depends on what kind of game you want to play.

If you want to play a sandbox game in vanilla GalCivII (meaning - no asteroids, no super abilities, no special condition planets, old-school espionage style) click on the Dread Lords icon.

If you want to play a sandbox game in Dark Avatar style (all the stuff I just mentioned vanilla GalCiv doesn't have) click on the Dark Avatar icon.

If you want to play a sandbox game in Twilight of the Arnor style (meaning all the improvements of Dark Avatar as well as the new tech trees, newer, better graphics, etc.) click on the Twilight icon.

If you've never played any of them before, I'd probably recommend starting with Dark Avatar. I prefer it over vanilla Dread Lords, but it's not as difficult tech and economy-wise as Twilight. I think it would probably be the best place to start as a new player, but that's just me.
