The DesktopX entry on the WinCustomize Wiki is a great source of information.

http://wiki.wincustomize.com/wiki/DesktopX

It has links to scripts, tutorials, etc.  However, as Zubaz said, you do need the professional version of DesktopX to export to Sidebar or stand-alone gadgets.

I dont make widgets as I dont have time to waste in an activity which would fetch me nothing. I merely download them as I am a wicked fox.

Actually, it doesn't have to be Professional version. Unless you want to make gadgets.

You open up DesktopX in builder mode, you choose new object, browse to the graphic you want to use for your object, (this short tut assumes you know what you want to make and have prepared graphics in advance). You continue in this manner until you have what you want. When you have the object the way you want it, right click it, choose select all, right click it again and choose export as widget. Name it and save it to a folder of your choice. If you need more help, tell me what you are trying to make and I will tutor you through it if I can.
