As I look around this site more and more it is very apparent who is left and who is right. What I do not understand is why many people to the right believe that having liberal views is unpatriotic. It just makes no sense to me. I love America. I like John Kerry and I believe Clinton was the best president we have had in recent times. I don't agree with President Bush's views, but does that make me hate America. How is it any different for someone who does not agree with a democrats view? That doesn't make them unpatriotic. It just boggles my mind that something as small as politics can divide people so much. That's just something I noticed. 'Nuff said.

I apologize for bringing race into this, but I want to provide another example.


There are black students at my school. Some of them are idiots. Is that the same thing as saying black people are idiots?" Does that make me racist? If so, why? Surely, if calling Americans stupid is not anti-American, calling black people stupid can't be considered anti-black.

I certainly don't think Americans are stupid. Some Americans are misinformed or misguided, but definitely not stupid. I don't claim to know everything, nor do I claim my opinions are correct. They're simply that: my opinions. That being said... I myself always thought that since America itself was built on ideals involving freedom, liberty, and justice, this also meant that its citizens were entitled to form their own opinions about the government, the legal system, etc. This would include, at least I would hope, a right to disagree with our elected officials. Why else do you think the forefathers of this country established the electoral process? Indeed, in the constitution itself it mentions a right to question our government. I would think... or maybe this is just a huge presumption of mine... that this would include (but certainly not be limited to) the President.

Bush, the last time I checked, is not the King, nor the Emperor of the U.S. He may be in office, but this does not mean I have to like him. You can like him, that's fine with me, I'm certainly not going to argue your right to like him. However, I hear, time and time again, how anti-American and un-Patriotic I am because I happen to not agree with Bush or his policies. Let's clear this up: I love America, but I don't like Bush. I think that much is possible.

Kerry, the man that I have to vote for since Dean is no longer a viable candidate, doesn't exactly appeal to me either, but he seems to have a far, far different vision for America that I happen to agree with. I guess this puts me in the "leftist" category, but so be it.

If Bush wins, I won't stop loving America, nor will I leave the country. However, please don't try to tell me that in order to love America, I also have to love the government. Keep in mind that, if Kerry wins, I'll remain skeptical and somewhat cynical, but at least I'll have hope. Bush just doesn't inspire me in that way.

The more accurate question is, "Why does the right always paint the left as unpatriotic," but that's so easily answered...


And the answer is, the right does not question the left's patriotism, the left just squeals that, and then turns around and starts calling people on the right all sorts of dirty names, some of the mildest being "racist, homophobe, nazi pigs".

I would ask the author to name one prominent republican who questioned the patriotism of the left. Questioned their judgement, for sure. Questioned their results, always. But questioned their patriotitsm? Name one, and blogs cannot be used for documentation purposes.

well.. heres how i think of it: Right wing is militaristic showing people we can fight back and blah blah blah while making enemies. The left wing come around later and make everythig peachy with the world and blah blah
any ways about the social experiment part of this, i have to agree with that, this kind of setup is starting to fail imho as there is becoming to many people to keep happy by the growin population and eventually the goverment will be seriously in trouble because what ever they do they will have some one complaining about it and going against it.

Don't the importing laws say that the foreign cars sold in the US will be built in the US? If you buy a Toyota - it is probably built in Tennessee - so you are not outsourcing jobs. If you buy a Ford - many of the parts are made in Mexico. It's one of those strange things.
