@ rebelx18

You were having trouble hosting on ICO, so I linked you to my guide.

Those are the steps needed to host right now, follow them or don't. You're choice.

Patch 1.1 as has been posted about numerous times on these forums will introduce NAT-T (Nat traversal) type "tunneling" netcode so those people who can't (because they're at university dorms etc.) or won't (because they have the attitude you do) will be able to host without "following a 10 page guide".

thanks,

P.S.

If you had asked a little nicer I would have invited you onto my TeamSpeak server and talked you through that ohh-so-long-guide of mine.  ;p

If you didn't change the password on your router from the default one you should be able to find it in the manual, or google "default login for xxxxx type of router".

Gotta love this.

NAT routers and firewalls are complex and potentially dangerous tools, yet they not only get sold to the most clueless users, but they even come preinstalled on most computers.

If you have a NAT router, you better know how to configure it, or you should pay a network administrator to do it for you.

Oh come on - it is NOT that hard to get one working properly.

Actually the 10 page thing is a little misleading. I started reading it, realised I did'nt have a clue what the guy was talking about and gave up after a few pages. The bit you actually need is only a few lines long and further down.

If my understanding is correct, and well it worked for me, you need to do the following.

In windows:

Go to network places, right click your connection, go properties, and enter your TCP/IP properties, and make a note of your IP address.

If its automatic you need to specify one. If your router IP is 192.168.1.10 try something like 192.168.1.xx where xx is 11-99

You can google more help on the rest.

I also in network connections asked Windows to show me all UnNp devices, not sure if this helps.

Then go to your router and in ports ask it to forward port 6112 to your IP address. (if your lucky your router wont even ask, you can select your computer by name)

Also don't enable UnPn on your router. For some reason. Or firewalls. Apparently router firewalls are just cheap gimmicks anyway.

One of the stardock posts looks like you need to specify a range of ports, you don't, just 6112.

Restart your router and Computer.

Go Host.

I understand why you might be confused, all the stuff I saw on this on the boards seems to be written by folks who forget that alot of us are total newbs and really do need these steps spelt out to us like the amateurs we are. Its great that they do, but it went over my head at first too.

@KingBingo,

Then you must not have been reading the correct guide of mine.. :)

The guide "Networking for the Gamer" I wrote back in '07 and contains generic information which is helpful to all gamers.

The guide "Networking and SINS" which I wrote Feb 14th/08 contains step-by-step instructions, which aren't difficult to understand or follow. Having said that, I've always made myself available to this community to talk people (via my TS server) still having difficulties through the steps.

My SINS-specific guide can be found linked-to right under the GREEN writing in the OP of this thread
