Population Migrations

I have a question about using Colony Ships to move people from a higher populated planet to another planet with low population.  Most of my games start with an explosive expansion during the early game.  This often leaves my economy hurting due to having too many colonies with too few people.  Usually my capital colony suffers from over-population.  Has anyone tried using colony ships to move population to help even out the population distrobution across thier colonies?  Is it worth it or is there another approach to massive early game expansion?

A lot of people use troop transports as shuttles later in the game.

One thing that might help you is to turn your homeworld into a economic planet with eco capital and not build on colonies until later. Population growth and morale buildings should be the only thing you have on colonies if you have money issues.

Actually might want to use the morale and economic race bonus too. These help a lot early game.

I routinely use Colony Ships (and later Troop Transporters) to relocate colonists to my frontier worlds. But I would strongly reccomend that, as soon as possible, upgrade your colony ships to carry TWO colony pods and give it some better engines. Otherwise, you will be taking a LONG time getting anywhere.

The great thing about this strategy is you can leap frog your colonies. And later on, you can convert any un-used colony ships into Transports.
