had my microbiology practical exam today ....n i'm proud to announce that out of a class of thirty i was one of the few to get 11/12 in the experiment...basically you had to prepare a stained slide of unknown microbial culture and identify the org as gram +ve or gram-ve,the tough part being obviously the identification...but the good thing about my exp. was that i cud easily see rod shaped cells in my slide...which are most of the times gm -ve
the synopsis also went pretty well..considering the fact i was in no moods to give the exam wat with apparent lack of preparation,getting up late in the morning,(...though i had set the alarm for 4 o'clock...(yes...!!)but cudn't leave the warm embrace of my cozy blankets..:))i'm finally glad i didn't bunk it

I too had Microbiology during my 2nd year of grad. and I was literally awful when it came to preparing slides and identifying the bugs under the microscope. To me, everything seemed as just blue and pink. Infact it took me a whole year just to figure out the diffference b/w appearence gram + and gram -ve and b/w cocci and bacilli. They all looked the same.

ha ha ha..
okay though i myself am not very fond of microbiology as a subject ..but i absolutely love seeing slides under the microscope..whether it's monocot dicot stem in botany or blood cells in anat n physio or of course m/o in micro

Plant parts are pretty under the microscope.

I used to do a lot of work with the microscope when I was working in a cytogenetics lab. Here's a photo of some treated and stained g-banded human chromosomes in metaphase (10x100X magnification). They belong to some male patient showing a typical normal 46,XY.
