gc2launch.exe has stopped working

Ive spent about 4 hours trying to get this game to work and im a bit frustrated.

When i first put the disc in i got an error that says gc2launch.exe has stopped working and windows of course can not resolve the issue.

I finally got the game to install by going to the setup off the disc contents, and updating my nv8500gt card to the newest drivers-it installed 100 percent and i got the finished option.

After installing the game i absolutely can not get it to launch. Ive tried everything-im still getting the gc2launch has stopped working-which by the way, pops up the SECOND i hit the launch icon-it doesnt even attempt to load. I read a post that i can use the stardock website to launch the game but cant figure out how to do this. I was able to do the updates but cant figure out what im suppose to do about the shortcuts. I just have the standard gc2 without the expansions so i cant really use an expansion shortcut-although at this point id be willing to buy an expansion to get this game to launch lol. I do have a hp pavilion a6414f desktop pc (just bought it yesterday) which uses amd athlon 64 x2--- would this cause it not to launch properly? Ive spent at least an hour reading through the support forums, i dunno maybe im just missing something, any help would be great.

system info for what im using the game with:

amd athlon(tm) 64x2 dual core processor 6000+ 3.00 ghz
3.0 gb ram
32 bit os

I had the nvidia ge force 8500 gt installed and did the driver updates to the latest version.
I also updated the direct x to the latest versio

If the launcher won't work (some antivirus programs can cause that, among other things), you can simply run the game directly and update your shortcuts accordingly. Just browse to the location you installed it at in windows explorer, and run/create a shortcut to GalCiv2.exe, GC2DarkAvatar.exe, or GC2TwilightArnor.exe accordingly.

i hate to be such a pain, but im sorta new to pc gaming and need a lil more help. I ran the setup - i went through the 0-100 percent and it installed fine, and i thought i had installed the game but i dont have a galciv2.exe to run. i dont have either expansion so i cant do the other 2. I dont have any anti virus, i had norton but removed it completely from the computer. the disc wont start on its on when put in the computer or manually ran-i just get the error message stating it wont launch. i see there are multiple setup files like setup.w02 and such on the disc, which i just ran the main setup that has a computer icon. i really want this game to work and im 110 percent sure my computer will handle it, but i dont know how to send you guys the error files to make this easier. If there is another link that can walk me through what i need to do ill be happy to read it. I can uninstall/reinstall but i doubt that will fix the problem. anymore suggestions would be great, and i guess if anyone replys plz answer in as simple way as possible, im just not too bright on pc software problems. thanks in advance.

It's not on the disc, it's on your hard disk where the game was placed by the installer. By default that's C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2, as I recall.
