Full Version Not Working

Hi all -

I downloaded the free version of WindowBlinds a couple of days ago and decided that it was fab so I purchased and registered it.  Thing is, it's not working properly now?

When I open the programme itself it's too big for my screen, so I have to drag the window around to see different parts of it.  Also, the purchased version doesn't look right?  I've tried to attach a screenprint so you can see what I mean but I can't figure out how to do it, but what has happened is - the thingummy bar (sorry, not good with technical stuff!) along the top where it says what programme you're in and has the maximise/minimise/close buttons on is not showing, and it's covered up the task bar at the bottom of the screen as well.

Can anyone explain what's happened and help me sort it out, please?  Much appreciated as I haven't the foggiest with computers other than how to use them for work!

Are you on XP or Vista?

Couple of questions did you reboot after installing?
If not do that first!

Did you uninstall the free version before installing the full version? A very common mistake.  ;)

I did reboot but I didn't uninstall the free version first.

How do I do that? Or is it too late now?

The free version was too big for my screen as well but the frame thing worked!

Thanks for help so far

What resolution are you running at?  The full version is the same size

No it is never too late. How did you install, standalone or did you use Stardock Central (SDC) or Impulse? If standalone use Windows Add or Remove function, if one of the others use that program to uninstall WindowBlinds. Run some sort of cleanup program like CCleaner and then reboot, Reinstall WindowBlinds using either SDC or Impuluse and then reboot. Very important to make sure you go back to you default Windows style before uninstalling.

Zubaz asked a very important question, what resolution are you running at?

Hopefully this clears up you problems. Post back and let us know.  ;)

Oh I am such a technical idiot! I have some more questions (and one answer) before I can go any further! Sorry to be so thick!

My resolution is 1024 x 768. It feels uncomfortably large to me but I've tried reducing the resolution and it just makes things fall off the edges of the screen rather than making the resolution smaller! Don't know what I'm doing wrong there.

I don't know how I downloaded it - I just clicked on the link and ran the setup wizard thing.

What is CCleaner?

What is SDC or Impulse?

Also, here's a really dumb question - if I uninstall WindowBlinds, do I just go the purchase email and reinstall it? Will it let me do that again? How do I not do standalone installing??

Sorry for all the questions

A higher resolution makes things smaller:
example
a picture 1024 pixels wide will fit across your screen at 1024x768
a picture 1024 pixels wide will go beyond your screen at 800x600 since 1024 won't fit in 800

the picture will seem smaller at resolutions above 1024

What is CCleaner?
End of quote

CCleaner - from their homepage:

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

What is SDC or Impulse?

SDC = StarDock Central - downloader/installer/uninstall/archiver/browser/chat/etc for Stardock products. Used to enter and register your serial number(s) and to download and install/uninstall the apps

Impulse setup = Impulse = replacing StarDock Central

download/save/then run: The Zapper to remove WB... reboot, use something like CCleaner to clean up

Download and install either SDC or Impulse, register, use it to download install WB

Thanks for that in depth response! Great help - will go off and do those things shortly.

Sorry - I had my terminology backwards! I was trying to increase the resolution, but rather than making the picture seem smaller (which is what I wanted) the picture stays the same size and things fall of the edges of the screen! I don't understand it at all! If I change the resolution at work then it works, but for some reason not on my laptop!

I really am an imbecile at all this lark.

Following Philly0381's advice, I have tried to go back to the default windows style so that I can follow Bichur's advice and uninstall/reinstall etc.

BUT - I can't go back to the windows default!!! I went to the control panel/appearance&themes/display/themes and selected 'windows xp' from the dropdown, clicked 'apply' and 'ok' but the display is still in WindowBlinds (I'm using dragon).

I'm sorry if I'm driving you all nuts, but if another very kind person could help me reset to the default style I'll be very grateful!

open WB configure > system info tab > copy text button, then right click here and paste the info

after you close configure, right click the systray icon and 'unload wb'

choose an xp theme in display properties

run the zapper

Thanks, this is the info:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.1 (build 55 x86)

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

(Plug and Play Monitor) 1 is attached to SiS M760GX

Wblind.dll 2008/05/06 11:05:20
Wbsrv.dll 2008/04/29 21:58:10
Wbconfig.exe 2008/04/29 21:58:32
Wbload.exe 2008/04/26 16:14:14
Wbhelp.dll 2008/04/26 16:14:07
Wbui.dll 2008/04/26 16:14:05
Tray.dll 2008/04/26 16:14:21
Screen.exe 2008/04/26 16:14:18

I closed WB and right clicked on the system tray icon but there was no option for 'unload WB', only: open; run as; scan with norton; pin to start menu; send to; cut; copy; create shortcut; delete; rename; properties!! Edit: there is an uninstall option in the start menu - is that what I need to do? I thought I needed to revert to normal settings before uninstalling?

Can I remove WB without having to do the same for CursorFX and IconPackager?

right click the tray icon and open

pick a default windows skin (all the way to the left in the scroll)

apply

that should unload WB and keep it from running at start up

sometimes you will revert to 'windows classic - modified' when reverting to a default skin or unloading

you can use the drop downs in the normal display properties to reset the default skin

then try the 'uninstall' in the start menu

it won't bother CursorFX or IconPackager

Ah well.

I did the whole uninstall, cleanup, download SDC and reinstalled WB using it but it's still doing the same thing (bar along top not there, too big for screen).

I guess it doesn't like my system somehow. At least it works, it's just irritating not being able to see the whole screen. Nevermind!

Thank you very much to Bichur and Philly and everyone who offered advice, much appreciated xx

HURRAH!!!

You've fixed it! It was set to 120dpi and I changed it to 96dpi and - ta-da!!! - it's all perfect!! Have uploaded a screenshot to prove it!

I never could work out why everything on the screen on my laptop looked huge when it was set to the same resolution as my computer at work. . .

Big huge thanks for all your help! It's so pretty!
