How do you patch Galactic Civilizations II:Gold?

When I go to update the game,the 'My Games" thing shows my game as being GC2 with Dark Avatar needing it's own patch. But if I patch Dark Avatar the game won't run. Is there a "complete" patch strictly for GC2:Gold that I can download?

GC2 Gold is just a shiny box with GC2 and DA in it--once it's installed, it's identical to having the two separately.

If you're having an issue with the latest version, please open your debug.err file in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. The location you'll find the debug.err in varies depending on your game version:

Dread Lords, all versions:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2

Dark Avatar 1.6+(Windows Vista), 1.7+(non-Vista):
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar

Twilight of the Arnor:
My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

I uninstalled,re-installed and patched both again and it seems to have worked this time. My only question now is that both DL and DA splash screens show version 1.5. Shouldn't DA be showing 1.8?

That's the launcher version. You'll see the actual game version in the main menu after you start one or the other.
