Is a Galciv 3 planed?

While reading a X-play review of twilight of the Arnor, they said that unlike the twilight of the Arnor expasion, GalCiv3 will need a better computer. So I am guessing a GalCiv 3 is planed.

The next game will be the fantasy not-MoM, at least that was the latest information. And as that is planned for 2009, I guess that by the release of GalCiv3, everyone WILL have a new computer anyway. ;)

I think they said GC3 was still three or more years away due to the schedule of other games they already have on the table. Maybe we can run it on our Virtual Reality PCs by then :) .

I think it's a given that Stardock would like to make a sequel....eventually. As pndrev pointed out, however, they have more than enough on their plates to keep themselves occupied for the next few years. Given that, I think that realistically we won't see GalCiv 3 until at least 2011 -- maybe even later, in all honesty.

You may be wrong Martok, here is a incerpt from the written review of the twilight of the Arnor expansion.

" though you probably won’t be so lucky when Galactic Civ III comes out, which is apparently next on the docket for developer Stardock."

What do you think that means.

Sorry guys, GC3 isn't planned for a while.  ;)   Need a break from Space Based games for a bit, come back with fresh ideas to build upon.

Well, I note a patterN:

GC -- the basic game, with vague references to the Precursor history. Running through the expansions explored the mystery of why the Terrans and Altarans look alike, which suggested a deeper Precursor design.

GC2DL -- the game framework solidified and expanded. Much in-depth history concerning "where did the Precursors go?" The answer to which ultimately is, "The Dread Lords are still here. But to balance them there is just _one_ Arnor."

GC3 -- which I expect will be something along the lines of "The Return of the Arnor." Can't leave the galaxy to the whims of the Dread Lords; that would be a definite ultimate win by Evil. The story will have to have a serious, conclusive battle between the Arnor (returned from a galaxy far, far away) and the Dread Lords in their pocket galaxy. Such a conflict MUST be a galxy-shaking event. And given what effects that must be manifested during such a battle royale, the game's framework will have to be tweaked to accommodate those effects. And in order to have any kind of status quo in the universe, that battle _must_ end with the Arnor and the Dread Lords cancelling each other out, eliminating each other, and leaving the lesser races to sort things out for themselves.

Of course, there _will_ be a possibility that perhaps not ALL of the Arnor and DLs were eliminated. Gotta leave _something_ for a sequel, after all.

If you can figure what kind of plot elements will go into the Arnor versus Dread Lords battle (which will heavily employ their lesser races pawns), you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what new mechanics and plot elements will appear in GC3.

And here is a direct quote from Frogboy confirming what the first three responders said.

In other words, I think your reviewer needs to do a better job of fact checking.

I think it means the reviewer suffered from a rectal/cranial inversion, and should be beaten about the head and shoulders with a 2x4 until he learns to check his "facts" against direct from the CEO's mouth statements from Stardock.

Somebody made a reference to lies, d***ed lies, and game reviews, a long time ago, didn't they?

I remember running into that (p)review and they're just flat-out wrong. Stardock's next big project is their turn based fantasy strategy game. They also would probably like to get back to developing Society, their MMO entry. And who knows what else they've got going on.

Brad did mention somewhere that a lot of the GalCiv2 team really wanted to move quickly onto GalCiv3, but he put them on Political Machine and the fantasy game.
