Excellent post NT and I am sad to say, so very true.

What will History say about Today's America? Man....I just can't bring myself to get into this and let it all out. Let's just say I'm disgusted by the apathy...greed and sheeple mentality in this country anymore. It's all circling the bowl and everyones just standing around watching it go down. 4....3....2....1....

In the days of horses and muskets this may have been possible. Today I think it would be a blood bath like those in the third world countries to try and forcibly throw off such government, and you will never do it by the vote.





We elected them and then they vote on bills any way THEY and the big money lobbies want. The Electoral College puts presidents in office not the popular vote. Does anyone actually think that the top 5% income bracket in this country gives a tinkers damn about the other 95%?

Sorry but I did not vote for the last and current administration and in the long run it really doesn't matter who is elected next it's going to take some time to fix our "state of the union". For those of you that did vote for the current administration you desire all of this. Until the entire government is cleaned out and new blood is put in nothing will change much. Look at the candidates this year and for the last few presidental elections, none have been worth a danm.

NT you forgot to add how we americans allowed a presidental election to be rigged and did nothing about it. This was not the first rigged election but it was the most flagrent and obivious one in my time.

Sad, very sad... I think we're in a decline such as the Roman Empire faced.

History will take the larger view and say that people, which at one time were able to care for themselves, became more and more dependent on government until they reached a point where they blamed all the ills of society on governments failure to provide everything for them.



Obviously this is a result of individual's choices. I don't think the numbers would be any different if there was no conflict in the middle east.

I guess we could go back to...Who Shot Kennedy!...  Yes we elect all those people and then most turn into greedy turds that sell their vote.  The president has very little power on his own.  Congress has the final say.  And no, I'am not supporting GW but he is the pres. so the office deserves respect.  Congress could have withheld the money for this Iraq crap which would have forceds the pres. to pull the troops.  We should have quietly, covertly sent some people over there and took out the bad guys wihout attacking a nation or two.  This nation was founded on religious principles but we have strayed from that and I think that started the problems of today.  But what the hell,  we can elect a woman, a black or an old, ex, POW.  But which ever we elect, its those greedy idiots in congress/senate that has the real power.  So choose wiseley.  And for those that don't know what war is like, go to a VA hospital.  Look and ask.  Remember, I'am a vet but I was against that Iraq crap.

I grew up in the 60's. I went on marches against the war in Vietnam. My friends and I published an "underground" newspaper at our High School. We never got caught! It was all for nothing. Here we are in 2008 and it's worse than ever. Nothing will really change until the basic nature of man changes.

The elected officials are supposed to represent us but in reality they represent special interests.

The electorial college appoints the president so all this presidential crap going on now is meaningless. Bush stole 2 elections in a row and no body did anything about it!

ALL the people need to unify and demand change but that will never happen because the people are too easily fooled and bought off.

A black man would not be the democratic nominee for president in the 60's. He would not have a female VP (Hillary will take the job). A vast improvement in opportunity and equal rights.

The "special interests" are nothing power than groups of people that combine their efforts to gain influence to attain their objectives. Greenpeace is a special interest group as is the Sierra Club, as all "associations" representing various businesses. They come in all flavors and chase wildly different objectives. I am sure there is one that pursues your personal objectives for a better country. Join up and get engaged.

It is hard to make changes when half the people in the country won't take the time to vote, whatever their preferences might be.

Could we at least have a couple Roman Feasts and Orgies 1st?

Apparently you don't watch TV Bichur or you would see that we are way beyond all that.   

Here is what I've learned, when current events become history, not very many people really care.   

If what history says about today was important more people would study it, analize it so that our society or the world in general would not keep making the same mistakes over and over.

History, no one really cares, why else are we still having wars over religion!

Those best suited to run for office seem to never want to lower themselves to do so.
And those who squander the power of the people they serve more often forget about the people in place of the power.

I've lost faith in our federal government.  That's a good in a way because I think we are too federated as it is.  I'll do what work I can to support local, city, and state governments and try to keep the feds as far away as I can.  The United States should not mean 50 regions under one state.  That's too much power and not what was intended.

It's all show and no blow! Go to 95th and Stony Island in Chicago or the heart of Gary Indiana and then tell me that the Black man has it better than in the 60's. They, they being the powers that be, make it all look better but in reality it's just the same. Women still get the short end of the stick with wages. Hillary is a Clinton for God's sake! She got this far because of the Clinton power and money. What is reality? What things look like or what they are?



What you say is true but you can bet your ass that the special interests that are for oil and big business are far and away more powerful than the Sierra Club. Those big money power groups are the ones in control and unless that changes we are still at the mercy of those who are only interested in gaining more wealth and power. Like Michael Moore said - Their greed knows no limit.


I vote because it's my right to vote. I know deep down inside that it doesn't change a thing. Like Mongo said in Blazing Saddles - I'm only pawn in game of life.
