I'm not feeling so gassy these days

. . and I'm not sure it's a good thing

Holy cow!  I'm planning where I go and how I get there more and more.

Oil hit $120US today and I'm feeling it at my house.  Thank goodness I work out of the house and the wife works close by.  The summer trip looks right out though.  (:(

Check out the Gas Temperature Map for the US.  I'm in a green zone . .but it still hurts.

It's no longer economical to go far from the house to purchase gas either now. When you figure in the cost of a gallon, and how much gas it takes to get to the cheaper station, you reallize it's actually more cost efficient to purchase locally for sometimes almost five cents more per gallon..

I am paying higher food prices too, to cut back on gas consumtion, which is frustrating, but again it's more cost efficient to pay up to twenty dollars more for a grocery trip than it is to pay almost fifty dollars for the gas I would need for round trips to different markets for "bargains".

I haven't convinced my husband yet of the advantages of owning a horse and buggy, but it's getting close. Though I imagine the price of horses and buggies will rise dramatically if they don't do something about the petroleum issue.

If you can afford a vehicle like this you can afford gas prices.

This weekend I spent $78 to fill up my truck and car at $3.45 a gallon. I don't think that's too bad.

And now Bush is talking about sending $770M in food aid OUT of the country, and I thought everyone quit droppig acid in the 60's.

How much driving you doing though Hog?  My impression (and short work visit in Budapest and Paris) indicated less of a need to drive a personal vehicle.

Here in Texas, mass transit (trains, buses) isn't really part of the culture so even if you wanted to reduce your driving it's difficult.  Also, the communities around Houston aren't designed around walking to the market or pub or what have you.  It's drive or do without.  (:(

Hopefully, as gas prices increase and become more painful the attitude will shift.

I lived in UK my first 18 years, gas has always been twice as expensive there due mainly to smaller vehicle size and shorter driving distances, i biked or modeped everywhere.

Zubaz I live in a little village about 8 mile from the nearst town and public transport sucks, so without a vehicle you don't go anywhere, don't go to work, don't go shopping etc etc, so you see i have to have a car to do just about anything. On average i spend about £30 a week on petrol (Gas) and thats keeping my driving to the minimum.

I am one lucky SOB when it comes to gasoline.
I drive over 70 miles a day and I normally trade my car in for a new one when it runs low on gas.
It's nice to work for a car rental company. :)

I drive a company car so that gas is paid for but the fuel bill on my personal vehicle (it's a pickup, I live in Texas; everyone drives a pickup in Texas) is close to $100 a month

I don't own a car - haven't in over 20 years now - so I've been pissing on the oil companies and the revenue man for yonks, when it comes to paying for fuel myself... not to mention, repayments repairs, registration, tyres and general servicing.

I've always made sure that I live somewhere with a good public transport system - right now I can get either a bus or train every 30 minutes to anywhere I need to go - and when I need a car once a fortnight to get the groceries home, I pay for a $5.00 - $6.00 cab fare.

OK, so I'm paying a little more for fares these days, but not a lot, and food prices have increased some because of oil prices rising, but all in all, I'm still saving thousands every year by not owning a car.

Personally, I think this oil pricing thing is one huge rort/ a con job of gigantic proportions... and the revenue man is gleefully rubbing his hands because his share goes up with every fuel increase. So think about it... what is our/your government doing to help ease the burden on motorist struggling to meet ever increasing costs?

;)

*** Oh, and Zubster, on another note, I'm feeling as gassy as ever!! :d ***
