Tech Question with custom race

there is a drop-down menu there that allows you to select which race's tech tree you wish to use. it is 'minor race' by default, which is slightly boring.

I cannot get any of my custom tech trees to show in game. I have tried creating a frsh copy as well as modifying existing ones. Anyone else had any luck?

You probably just need to know wht folder you need to save the XML into. For some reason this has not been documented anywhere.

Honestly I can't believe the lack of documentation on how to use the editors and where under the file structure to save and find files, it makes what look like pretty feature rich editors frustrating and useless.

I have to agree here. I was very excited about the Editors excpecially the ship editor. However once I attempted to use them I was lost.

My main beef is with the ship editor. Why is it that you can only edit components and not the ship styles or create the ship templates for a race? Have all this as well as editing componets would have been nice in the Ship Editor.

I like to create custome races and would like to have certain ship designs to only come up with this races however even when setting up a custom ship style in the game the templates from the race tempplate that i used to originally create the custome race template still show. For example I created the United Federation of Planets as a custom race. I used the Terran Ship Style as a bases for creating the UFP ships. Then in the race creation screen I select Create Ship style and call it UFP Ship Style. I assign the ships I want on that list. Then I will start a game and use the UFP race. When I look at the Template section under the create ship section I still see all the ships that were created for the Terrans. If I delete any template they seem to also be deleted on the Terran Style list as well if I start another game and play the Terrans. I basically only want ship templates for a race to be the only templates that race can pick from. Anyway around this?
