This is crazy

Game should work two months after release

First, I want to say that what i have seen of the game, I have enjoyed. I like several of the concepts and the ship combat is very enjoyable. That being said, I am very disappointed with this game and this bug that causes a reboot for every game. For being out as long as it has, the development team should have had this issue solved by now. This latest patch, 1.04, has been out a month already and the problem still persists. It makes the game totally unplayable. Why spend hours on the game when it dies 15 minutes into it? Civilization would never had this problem. In closing I will say that game developers always complain about people copying their games illegally and how can they make any money? Well, this game, and this bug, are the exact reasons why those folks do that. Had I known that you had this bug, and the fact that you took my $50 for a useless game, then I would have copied someone else's to check the status of the game first. I can only hope that you find this bug and correct the problem soon. Asking people to send you their info a month after its been reported is like someone saying their brakes are bad and having them send a picture of their motor to you. Find the solution. Thanks.

I have the same issue. What sound do you have? By chance do you have Realtek AC 97 onboard sound? A lot of my reboot errors were related to sound issues according to the 'blue screen of death' messages. I'm going to putting in a new sound card this week as a final troubleshooting measure to see if it actually makes any difference in my minidumps or reboots.

It is highly likely the problem is on your end. Random reboots can be caused by many things. I would start by:

1. Testing your memory
2. If overclocking, change clock speeds for CPU and/or video card back to stock
3. Updating your video driver
4. Updating your sound driver

The drivers may be the easiest place to start, because it could explain why older games, such as Civ4, don't exhibit the behavior.

The game works perfectly for me. Make sure your computer meets the game's requirements and that you have all the latest drivers and updates. Also service your hard drive (defrag/dskcheck) and clean your computer case, dust can hamper the computer performance.

Have you contacted customer support? You could provide some specs about your computer here and describe the problem you are having in order to receive help.

Maybe it is you who must find the solution. Think about it.

Unless your stealing something out a shear need to survive there is not justification for it.
Don't care if the game works for you or not. Stealing it is flat wrong!

That being said the above posts will probably fix your problem.

As noted by others, a spontaneous reboot is almost always a result of either a hardware failure/overheat, or a supressed BSOD (Control Panel->System Properties->Advanced Tab->Startup and Recovery Settings and uncheck 'automatically restart'). In either case there's very unlikely to be anything the devs can do about it, since it's probably an issue on your machine.

I did that when I had a similar problem when running COD4, my box still went down. Not saying it doesnt work, just didnt in my case.
On the software side of things, here is another thing you can check. Check your event log for any errors corresponding to the time of the reboot. chances are, if theres an error, it will be recorded right before the crash. I used to have an ATI graphics card, now I am using an Nvidia. I did the whole uninstall thing when I removed the ATI card and thought I had everything. After crashing 4 times in one night, I checked the log, it showed an error when trying to load the ATI crossbar something or other, all 4 times! These errors corresponded with times of the crashes, so I went back and did a thorough removal of all things ATI and all has been good since.

Good luck to you... this is the worst type of trouble shooting to perform...due to the immediate and unpredictable crash, lack of warning signs prior to the crash, lack of clues after the fact and the abundance of potential causes. Like Kryo, At first I thought this was likely a hardware issue and was going to start replacing parts, starting with the PSU. I just happened to check these logs as a last resort, maybe a clue to what device was failing. These logs will be one of the first things I check form now on....
