Hi there people - Got a question to ask

I've played single so far, had a great time, but this gets really boring playing alone :/

my question is this, do I need an original CD-Key in order to play multiplayer games (NOT online) ?

Thanks ahead.

Ummm...why would you NOT have a CD key? Do you have a Jolly Roger flag on your car's antenna by any chance?

As far as I know, you only need a cd-key when you want to play online.
I think you mean LAN right? then you do not need a key

Does sound a bit dodgy to be honest :) I would actually like to know the situations for lans since its been brought up, i.e do I need to buy a 2nd copy to have a lan in my house or is it possible to play a lan with the one copy. Is it legal? Would appreciate if someone could answer each of these questions. Also as far as my situation is concerned I have purchased the game. May purchase a 2nd copy in future but cant afford it at this time. I know some games work on 1 license 1 PC and I know theres alot of legal issues but I must admit I think its a bit ridiculous that myself and 1 family member cant have a 2player lan with some games. Im not going to go on about it though but would be interested out of curiousity what stardocks stance is on this? (If It would get me into trouble playing a lan with 1 family member I wont play a lan and will stick with the one copy, if not I will make a point of buying a 2nd copy in 3 months so that we can both enter IC online[because I am more eager to support a company thats using common sense in conjunction with protecting their investment)

(Dont want to get into it and this is a well used analogy and most likely hated by some but if you rent a movie , knowone ever rents for example 2 or 3 copies of the same film to watch the film with 3 people)

As for the OP hopefully it was lan you were talking about and you have purchased the game , since if your not doing this you are championing the cause for companies to get stricter and stricter with their consumers.

The EULA permits you to install Sins on a second PC and play a 2-man LAN with one cd key. Whether or not that's somehow enforced I don't know (as far as having 3+ LAN on the same key), but legally speaking you're allowed a 2-pc lan for each unique key.

Sounds like that addresses the rest of your post :P

Thanks it does and you know something that kind of sensible way of doing things makes me want to order another copy for IC asap. I wasnt sure about buying the expansion but Im enjoying the first game and although I dont like talking of expansions at lauch of a game well I am going to make a point to buy it.

I also realise IC need to protect their investment but its good to see people who actually buy the product are getting treated correctly.

Thanks very much for your reply, this means I can get a family member hooked now lol and another copy should get bought all the sooner

Cheers!

Honestly, I'd bet that it'll work. However, it does break the EULA. Ironclad and Stardock have been kind and very reasonable with their restrictions, so you should probably be nice to them and buy more copies. Don't be that guy.

The answer is no.
You can put any random number in when creating an account, and it will validate.

That is completely false. You must have a valid serial in order to register on the updates page. It *will* fail if you do not.

Forums/SDC account creation only does not require any serial registration, but the updates page combines the two for simplicity and both login and serial must be unique and valid for it to work there.

agree

Yeah kyro dont blame you for setting it up that way, the companies just protecting its assets , It would be silly not to and the fact you folks havent been jerks like MS by making it possible for 1 family member to have a simple lan is great and any user with sense isnt going to break the eula because if many did it would mean it would have to be overly strict in the future and everyone loses out(Kinda like windows vista ultimate, I thought that would be like a retail copy where you pay like >100usd more than the standard version to get licenses for 3 home PCs but you only get for 1, lol and they wander why their sales are down? )

Anyway appreciate the feedback, wont ask about anything like this again and I genuinly aint going to break the Eula since like what Is quoted the current setup is very reasnable.
