MyColors Replacing Premium Suites

One place to get all of your premium content

http://mycolors.stardock.com

As some of you probably have noticed, we've begun moving some of our Premium Suites over to MyColors.  And if you've purchased the Pirate or Magic Desktop Premium Suites recently, you'll soon be receiving (if you haven't already) an email explaining that your purchase has been upgraded to the MyColors version of the suite, which have been tested to work in both Windows XP and Windows Vista.

What does this mean for Premium Suites overall?  Well, they're being replaced entirely by MyColors Themes.  We've begun the process of upgrading older themes such as Omega to MyColors, upgrading the skins and icons to work under Windows Vista.

As older suites are upgraded, if you purchased within a certain time window, you will receive a free upgrade, otherwise there will be a small upgrade fee.  In the case of Omega, it's any orders placed since November 30th, 2007 up to the point where the suite was upgraded to MyColors.  If you purchased prior to November 30th, you can upgrade for just $4.95.  The upgrade price is there because the suite was XP only and has been upgraded for Vista.

Want to keep track of which of our Premium Suites have been upgraded to MyColors?  Keep an eye on the Inspired Themes list.

The biggest advantage to users with this switch is now if we upgrade a theme, or fix a bug later on, it can be automatically distributed to all users via the MyColors distribution tool.

Where do ODNT members find the actual price of a given theme? Is the discount applied equally to all themes or does it vary? I haven't bought one ...yet, but I'm an Impulse-ive shopper. ;)

On each Theme page there is a link near the buy button for ODNT users to check on available discounts.

Below the Buy button you will see

Have an Object Desktop Subscription? Click here to get the discounted price!

Here is a link to page to enter your OD info.

Prices vary according to licensing of theme. I think they range from $8.95 to $14.95 for OD subbers.

Edit: Damn beat by the Z's, althought I did provide more info ;) and the forums were acting up when I posted. ;) :NOTSURE:

Just got an email giving me my upgrade to the Magic Suite through MyColors.

Took maybe a couple of minutes at most and now I have an updated suite. Upgrade worked fine with no problems for me, hope it works as well for everyone else. :HOT:

Yes, I do have ObjectDesktop Ultimate and run Impulse on a XP Home 32bit system.

Thanks again folks, another job well done.  :CONGRAT:

MaxVanBlade I had previously purchased the Magic Suite so the upgrade that I got an email for didn't cost me anything. Worked just as it was explained in the OP above by Zoomba.  ;)

The only ones that will have an upgrade path are ones that were previously XP only.  Vista adds a new substyle and more icons, so that is why there is an upgrade.  Pirate and Magic were always Vista, so they are free to anyone who already purchased the Premium suite.

Where is the logic in this? If I have Window Blinds, why in the world would I even wish to mess with this My Colors?

Other than to get the themes to apply (because MyColor buyers are really buying the themes, not the delivery service) none.

The MyColor market is not the ODNT users.  It's the non-skinners who just want ot have their desktop tricked out with their favorite school/team/car/etc

HauntingMorgana, it shows up free with my ObjectDesktop Ultimate subscription and they give you free themes, and there are themes that you can't get with just WindowBlinds and it's just another way to customize your desktop. ;)

erm... so no more premium suites for WindowBlinds then? And the price just more than doubled, if I understand this right? Wow & ouch.

The MAster kinners can still release what have you.  And ODNT subscribes get around 1/2 off the new MyColor suites.  And if you purchased suites before that are being upgraded . . you get a discount to effectivly pay for new work done on the theme.

Not entirely a bad deal.   :D

The thing I don't like about the MyColors stuff is the dependence on the installed MyColors app (and the implicit theme manager behaviour). I've already had some issues with the MyColors install, I've had to uninstall and reinstall windowblinds to make things work correctly. I'm not opposed to the *idea* of MyColors, I'd just like to be able to apply the theme without having to install what I consider to be an unnecessary app to do it. Let those of us who already have WB, etc., just download a theme file that we can unzip and install as we wish, without the need to screw up our OD installation to do it.

Just like Impulse. More complication. Fancy doo dads. What's the point? I know that Stardock is making more money off it. That's fine. Good for them. This is making things more complicated than need be in my opinion. I don't need yet another application to install or load skins. Why fix it if it ain't broke? I'm happy to purchase a suite or master skin as is without this My Colors stuff. 19.95 for a suite. That's too much. It ain't worth it. I can't afford it. You are gonna price a lot of people out of your product. I guess that's just the way it is in America now anyway. More I think on this more I'm tempted to just go back to Aston. That's what I used before all this Stardock bling bling shot me up. We'll see. No one cares anyway. Maybe I'll fire up my Windows 3 computer! 2 Megs of RAM! Wow!
