Metaverse Submission problems

As some of you have pointed out to us the Metaverse submissions have not been working for the last two days. The problem has been corrected and all the scores that were submitted were placed in a queue and I am currently processing that queue so your scores should show up shortly.

Sorry for the headaches.

T-Man, no I mean for us to be able to read the data to verify scores for our Hall of Fame. It is written in Hex code as you know. This would really make a big difference in the Galciv community. Right now the modding community is at a stand still compared to the amount of players. Most people do not use mods because they do not want to ruin the chance to post their scores. We want to provide a place for people who liked their game modded to post high scores as well. We would be willing to sign a NDA if need be. We are dedicated to the modding community and now Galciv. Please reconsider our request. It is for the long term shelf life for Galciv after all.
Unless you guys have plans to create another Metaverse for modded games? I do not think you have any intentions on doing this. Our HOF would just post the high score the game gives you. No magic formula just normal high score 15 minutes of fame type stuff. Thanks anyways. :)

Hi T-Man...

hope it okay for me to post my submission problems.

I submitted a game a week ago, and it has not shown up.
After the submission, I realized that I had not "registered player", so I have now done this (figure that submission is lost).
I submitted a game today (June 3), it has not shown up either.

Maybe there is a delay in posting the scores? Or maybe there is a problem with my submissions???
Anything you can do to help would be appreciated !!
thanks

Hi T-Man --

basically, same as Imperial Guard above. (step by step the same)

my registered name on the forums and such is supermankalel, but my players name is Kal-El. :HOT:
Gracias, danke schoen, domo arigato...

supermankalel/Kal-El

Supermankalel - The game you submitted today was the same game you submitted on 5/31.  So it updated your scored for that game.  If you re-submit a game it will update the records once.  It will not create a new entry.

ImperialGuard - I searched back to about 10 days ago and did not see any data for either of your submissions.  Any chance you are behind some type of firewall that may be preventing GalCiv from sending the data?

Hey T-man;
Since you're looking up other people's problems, could you check on mine? I last tried to upload a score to the Metaverse this past weekend (but can try it again anytime if it will help). Can you see if anything came through? BTW-When the upload asks for "alias", what should I be trying? I've tried several things and none seem to work. I'm not behind a firewall or anthing. Thanks!

Liquid998 - When submitting your scores you are submitting them with a Playername of Liquid998, however, you are registered using the playername of LiquidChaos.
End of quote

Thats back from reply #81.  So since you are registered as LiquidChaos that is what you should enter.

Thanks T-man, I submitted it successfully tonight. I do have Norton's firewall but it hasn't affected Metaverse before. I figure it's something my flakey ISP is doing..

Hi T-man,
I submitted my first game last night around 3 am Pacific time. I think everything was going okay until I noticed that I had submitted it under the name Kieran instead of Kiernan. Will that still make it in correctly or will I need to resubmit?

Thanks!
-Kiernan. :SURPRISED:

You will need to resubmit it as Kiernan.

Hi T-Man ... I have been submitting from work, where I "assume" there is a firewall?? When the games finished, I was prompted to submit to the Metaverse, and hit the submit button, but received no errors. I guess I thought everything went okay. :notsure:

I will see how I can get around/through the firewall... thanks for your help!!

T-man,
1st, Kudos for your dilligence.

I've submited 2 games since my first one on 5/7/2003, (after I realized how to sign up) ;) The most recent one I submitted last night(this morning) but it's a no show. Since the first one went through the only thing I've changed my game version, to the latest.
Thanks for your help.

T-Man thanks for your help and personal reply to me. Brad seems to think if we tried to read scores it would be a gross violation of user privacy. :notsure: I respect what you guys are saying but I hardly see how reading the score of the game to verify if the one submitted is correct is a violation of any privacy at all. We will I guess pursue this on our own without your blessings. I was hoping you would see the merit in an alternative place for users to submit scores especially modded games. If such a HOF exsisted more people would be interested in mods. Currently there sure is not much use for mods when the metaverse will not allow most of them. Thanks again! :sniff!:

T-Man,

After my first game I typed in a bogus alias for the Metaverse submission, since I had yet to register. Today, I forgot to switch to my valid alias and submitted a game to Wormy instead of NimbleMonkey. If this could be fixed I would be very appreciative. Also, where is the list of aliases stored? I'd like to delete the invalid name to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks.

Big Tony - I am not seeing any of your data. Are you behind a firewall?

NimbleMonkey.  You don't need to worry about it.  Only scores that match the player that you have registered will show up.  The bogus entry will just sit quitely behind the scenes and not be counted or seen.

As far as score calculation goes, I know there has been some work done but has anyone done a stastical analysis of raw scores matrix correlated by size and difficulty? I've looked at probably 200 different (submitted) scores and I'd bet that the function graph for raw scores should look pretty much like an inverted bell curve extruded into 3d space. Center low, outer edges high.

I would think that with the amount of data available to Stardock from the MetaVerse calculating the correct adjusted ranking based on raw scores adjusted for the current function variance (plot of raw scores will derive the appropriate modifier to apply to any give raw score depending on where it lies in the size/difficulty matrix) shouldn't be too difficult.

If done correctly, the graph of raw scores should give you a set of modifiers which could be applied to present a statistically level scoring function. These modifiers could be caculated nightly (to reduce server overhead) and applied to the raw scores at display time. However if a simple table was set up which contained only the gameid, raw score, difficulty, and size, the scores and function modifiers could be calculated very rapidly (perhaps on the fly) giving a more dynamic living feel to the entire MetaVerse and it's empires.

Notice to everyone.  If you are having troubles submitting games to the metaverse please go through this checklist first before submitting a problem.

1) Make sure that then playername you are submitting the game with matches the playname that you have registered

2) If you have upgraded from GalCiv to Drengin please go to the player registration page and make sure you are now using your Drengin serial number for your registration

3) If you are behind a fire make sure that GalCiv has the proper access so it can submit through your firewall.  If possible disable your firewall and then submit a score as a test.

If you need to submit a problem in regards to your metaverse submission please also include the PlayerName that you submitted with and the approximate Date/Time that you submitted the game.  Thank you.

Hey T-man!
Thanks for getting back to me. However, I have already tried to submit using LiquidChaos and have just tried again. Can you tell what is the problem with these submissions? I try a few more times just to give you some extra examples. Thanks a bunch!

Liquid.  I'm receiving the data but the game serial number is not being transmitted.  Please email Scott at [email protected] and send him your saved game and ask him why the GameSerialNumber is not being transmitted.  Tell him I sent  you.

Sedennial.  No we have not done any statistacal analysis in that manner.  It could be a good idea though.  If Mr. Frogboy requests it then yes it could definitely be done.

T-Man,
I've tried sending the score several times with the correct alias, but the game still isn't showing up. I've submitted two other games in the past two days without a problem, so I'm not sure what could be going on. Thanks again.

Could it be when i first reg. i used my galciv sn, but than i reinstalled my computer but used my dregnin sn? could that affect the score submission? EDIT: haha, looks like all my scores has disappeared :p hmm, i guess i shouldn't have entered my dregnin sn but convert! it using the convert option :(

Regarding the 20% basement for score decay:

T-Man, any chance of seeing this basement value re-thought? I've been running simulations of metaverse progression curves and the 20% basement causes some unpleasant behavior assuming people remain active in this game.

With a 20% basement and an even rate of submission, the scoring curve peaks in the 10th month before declining. That decline lasts until the 21st month before your score begins to increase again but it takes more than two years from that point just to regain your earlier 10 month peak :surprised:

Conversely, if you set the basement at 30%, score still peaks in month 10, takes a short dip and climb for months 11 & 12, then passes the 10 month peak in month 13 and gradually increases from that point out. The increase is very gradual, consider this example:

A player sumbits one game a week of about 1000 points. His score will initially peak around 4100 in the 10th month regardless of which basement is used. With a 30% basement, he can increase that score to about 5100 by the 4th year of playing, that's not much of an unfair advantage. However, with the current 20% basement, he'll have to keep playing for those 4 years just to get back up to 4100, and he'd have to play an additional six years to reach 5100.

------------

This question is probably purely academic as most of us will have probably moved on before even the 10 month marker gets here, but it's such a minor change with such a big effect I'd hope it gets considered just for aesthetic's sake :)
