GC II Gold problem in Vista SP1

My GCII installed in Windows Vista was running smooth until I upgraded to SP1 yesterday.  When I click the GCII shortcut icon today, I will prompt for playing Dark Avatar or reading the readme (??) file.  I therefore reinstall the game (I got error message such as fail to create game......... at the final stage of installation).  When updating the game using Stardock Central, it prompt me to install a new shortcut on desktop.

Afterwards, I double-clicked the shortcut and windows error message "GC2Launchexe has stopped running" displayed

Can you browse to the game's location in explorer and run it directly, rather than going through the launcher?

It seems no problem to run the GalCiv2.exe and GC2DarkAvatar.exe direct.

It seems that my problem is similar to that at https://forums.galciv2.com/307966

But the proposed solution for changing the .ini doesn't fit my case. Is there any way out?

The ini wouldn't have anything to do with the launcher. You can try contacting [email protected] and have them put you in touch with the guy that does the launchers to see if he has any ideas on why it won't work with SP1, but since you can just update your shortcuts and play the game without the launcher, it probably won't be a huge priority.
