Iconian buildings + tech tree

several "bugs"

First I want to tell the creators of this game, they did a fantastic job. All the decisions you made, were good ones, and the amount of effort that is put in communicating with the public is outstanding. I have probably played any mayor space turn-based strategy game ever created, and GalCiv is a masterpiece.

I am playing obviously the iconians now, because I wanted to explore the tech tree.

For starters, in the "economy tree" you got the bartering station, merchant imporium and merchant trade center.

The bartering station doesnt automatically get replaced by its obvious superior merchant imporium when researched. I guses this is a bug, because it is hugely annoying to manually upgrade every bartering station to a merchant imporium. The thing with the merchant trade center is, it costs relatively not much extra research to get it after merchant imporium, but it gives a whopping 50% economy bonus? This tech basically gives you a economic capital on any of your planets for a meagre investment. Isnt this number a bit off the charts?

Also on the Influence tree, there is still not a description of Xeno Persuasion.

Aside the Iconian tech tree, there is one really annoying aspect. The game has a 50% chance to crash whenever i tab out of the game, and want to tab back in. This was a bug which troubled me with the orginal galciv2 game, and was fixed thuogh in DA. But somehow it came back in TA. Also when i tab out in the main menu, or in the race-option starting screen, and I tab out, the game has a 99% chance of crashing. I don't know if anyone else has this problem too, or if has something to do with my hardware config.

I will try to keep more updates in this post, when i find some more bugs.

It's been a while since I've last played the Iconians, but I think the 50% econ building they get is vastly needed since their buildings have a high maintenance. When they were first introduced to the beta, it was harsh to get them rolling due to economic issues.

Do you have the game in fullscreen? You could change it to windowed and the resulution you have in windows. It helps, i did so and i haven`t any crashes

My pattern with the Iconians is to drop their three unique buildings on almost every planet, and then customize some from there. If you can get the Archive, Library, and Emporium up then you can usually get semi-decent background research going and avoid bankruptcy at the same time.

I've been exclusiviely playing the Iconians for a while now. The biggest flaw that they have is the lack of available ground pounders. They get creamed when invading planets. Usually, I trade for Tidal Disrupters and use them on every invasion. I've even seeded AI players with the prequisite techs in order to encourage them to research Tidal Disrupters so I could buy it from them.

I really like the tech tree for the iconians, although the industry buildsing they get suck. :)

Notably, the Iconians as a race do not get a technology or manufacturing capitol in their basic tech tree. This helps balance the fact that they can build high cost versions on every planet. Also, their morale buildines are five times as expensive as most of your typical ones.

Overall, I'd say that they have a pretty balanced technology tree.
