Dark Avatar: No ships or planets when starting game/just symbols

Hi guys,

I am at work right now and I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem before.  I bought the game from the whole stardock.com thing and DL-ed and installed it just fine.  The regular Galatic Civs II game works fine but when I play Dark Avatar things go well until i see the galaxy for the first time.  The problem is that there are no planets or ships on screen.  There are only graphic placeholders(circles, you can also see the terran symbol and symbols of other races).  When i get home i can post my debug file but i wanted to know if someone knows of a quick fix out there.

Here is some simple info on my PC(until i can post the file later today)

  • Vista 64-bit Ult(SP1)
  • English version of the game
  • Saphire 3870x2 (i have 8.3 drivers installed...the latest ones)
  • AMD X2 6000+
  • 4GB memory
  • I am running Dark Avatar when it's in the galciv2\darkavatar directory

Anyone out there have a quick suggestion?  I hope this isn't a nub question but i search the forums and couldn't find any info.  Thanks for your time.

There is the option for 'tactical zoom', which controls at what zoomlevel the models get replaced by the symbols. Did you by accident change that setting?

Ok, I checked it out when i got home and found out you were correct. There is one thing though. No matter what setting i put the Tatical Zoom level at the symbols will always appear when i start a game. The amount of zoom level is saved(start a game with lvl 100 and change it to 99...close the game and reopen it is still at 99) but i need to change it for anything to appear. Once i change it the planets and everything else appears. Thanks for you help and happy gaming!
