Improve Personal Sites

There's been a lot of discussion recently regarding improvements to the site, and I would like make some observations regarding the functionality of personal sites here at WinCustomize. I'm not sure if the problems I have experienced are universal, but here are some things I have noticed.

In the GALLERY ~ Editing Comments:
If you choose to edit a comment and submit it, the text does get updated, but it causes the smileys in all of the comments (not just the edited comment, but all of them) to go away and become just image tags. I'm not a website designer, but it would seem that the code could be adjusted to prevent this from happening. (Presuming, of course, that it's not just my computer and is a universal problem.)

In Personal Site SETTINGS – My Account/WinCustomize Theme/Sub Style:
I personally prefer Left Navigation Bar. (I find this layout to be more visually appealing and less distracting. Whoever coded it must have thought some people would prefer it, or the choice would not have been offered...?) When I select it from the drop-down menu and press the “Update” button, the layout does change to Left Navigation. Great...I'm a happy camper!

But here's the problem: I try to be security conscious, so I usually clear cookies and history after each browsing session. Once I do, I find that my navigation settings revert back to the default Right Navigation. Why would that be? The other settings don't seem to be affected by clearing cookies. This isn't a huge issue, I know, but I would like to see it changed.

And now for my biggest peeve:
In the “My Comments” section of the Profile Page:
The “Remove” link does not work -at all – ever! Why? Again, the coders thought it was a valid function, so why doesn't it work?!!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to be able to do some “housecleaning” so to speak. After all, it is supposed to be My Personal Site, and I should be afforded that option. Especially paying subscribers such as myself should be able to do that.

So...”That's my story – and I'm stickin' to it!” :D

These are my own personal observations and suggestions. Does anyone else agree?

I move that these improvements be made:
“All in favor ~ say Yay”
“All opposed ~ say Nay”

Let's “Git 'er Done!”

That also happens to me Victory .... I guess the forums are made that way ... Delete the cookies and start again ...

Thanks Zubaz for fixing his O.P !! I surely appreciate that bit of fiddling .... and I'm sure a lot of us do .....

using Opera

I'm security conscious also, but deleteing cookies constantly is overkill, IMHO.
And here at WC, cookies are used to keep track of preferences, like that Navbar setting.

That's one of the things I love about Opera.... right click the page, select Site Preferences, and I have a number of options (including cookie handling) I can set for that site. :CONGRAT:

I've seen that also ... never noticed the correlation between commenting and the smileys disappearing. Just figured something was not right about the code in that section.

Here's a possible compromise. Use a utility to clear your cookies that will allow you to save specific cookies you want to keep. I haven't used it in a while but I'm pretty sure CCleaner will let you do that. Then you can feel safe about getting rid of your tracks without getting rid of the things that make your WC site better for you.

*cry* If only there was time. Right now most of the web team is hard at work on the next big thing for Stardock, Impulse. I like all of the suggestions that have been made, in one way or another, or pieces of them. For about the last year, Zoomba and I (among others) have been compiling a massive list of things that we're going to address, add and improve upon in the next revision of Wincusotmize. So I just thought I would pipe in here and say that while you may not see anything youre discussion here anytime soon, we're still watching and preparing ;) So all the discussion isnt just for naught.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.. Andrew, thank you for your attention. I understand that you and the team are very busy working on Impulse. (I'm very impressed with the recent updates of some of the key programs, and I appreciate all of the hard work of everyone involved. Stardock products are outstanding, and I enjoy using them.) I'm fairly new at WC. I realize that there are many improvements planned for the site and that it will be quite some time before they can be implemented. My purpose for this article was twofold. First, I wanted to find out if the problems are universal. Second, I wanted to help ensure that any universal problems are not overlooked and are addressed at the proper time as the development progresses. Thank you very much and keep up the good work Stardock team!
