BSOD and Windows Blinds 0x0000008E

Hi

I've bought recenty a newest version of WindowBlinds. Since I've installed it on my computer I had started to receive a BSOD during Vista start. The actual BSOD appears a tiny moment before a Windows logon screen. BSOD lasts for 5-6 seconds, than system is restating and after that Vista is loading with no problems (exept a diagnostic massage which appear advising that the last problem was caused by windows itself). The BSOD returns with next Windows start. Unistalling Window Blinds is solving the problem. Anybody knows a solution for this? I need to use Window Blinds because this is quite nice application, I don't want to simply resign from it.

There is a newer version in Stardock Central that may resolve your issue. Update your version and reboot then post the System Info again.

Welcome back

Ok, I've downloaded the Stardock Central as proposed. The result is my copy of WB beeing updated to ver. 6.09g[b].135
Please find below WB up to date system info:

-----------------------------

I don't know what is the reason for the scores beeing not visible to me...
Also I don't know what means this:
We don't know what's in that notebook from last summer. Per-pixel skinning requires your hardware has WDDM drivers and a graphics experience score of at least 2.

Are there any new suggestions to my problem?

Are you using nview? If so you should disable it.

Are you still having the BSOD issue with the newer build?

Hi...
This is what I did

1. I uninstalled previous version throuh Staradock Central
2. I cleaned up the registry form the WB entries
3. I re-installed WB through Stardock Central
4. I checked for Windows Updates (unexpectedly I was offered to update the nvidia video driver through Windows Updates)
5 I updated the system as proposed but despite of this still no graphic and basic score

As far I am not receiving the BSOD's but I can't confirm that the problem is gone as the main issue has been occurring frequently but not allways. I am still observing the startup sequences and I will update the post as soon as something relevant occure. Minwhile I've submited my ticket to stardock support along with dxdiag report.

I as far I know I am not using it. Can you tell me how may I check this just to make sure...
If you open the control panel, nView should be listed in there. Open it and look to see if it is enabled or disabled. WB doesn't play well with nView, so make sure it says 'enable'.... if it says 'disable', it's running...

I see nothing to indicate a second monitor with this lap.....that nview setting will be nowhere to be seen in the newest NV CC (if rundll32 isn't running in TaskManager, it's not running).

Don't have a clue about the scores not showing, but that BSOD/Stop is a memory error.

You might need to refresh your Windows Experience Index. Right click Computer and go properties. Then click Windows Experience Index, should be self explanatory from there. This is odd, though. I have that same exact laptop and use Object Desktop on it with no problems at all.

ok, I've found Nview in Nvidia Control Panel. Nview only uses one display (single)

It can't be the memory error. I have two seperate sets on memory chips (2x1GB and 2x2GB). Both (first - the original and the additional I bought 2 weeks ago) are branded by Kingston. I've checked and tested every single chip behaviour and I tell you that if WB is installed, the BSOD appears no matter which set or single chip is inside my notebook. I also checked them with build in my laptop memory tester. Test lasts for 2 hours. No errors has been found during every test.

Disable nview.....if you only have one display it's not much use anyway.

As far no BSOD's. Please forgive my temperance. I am still a bit suspicious about this case. I truly hope that this issue is finaly solved. I'll keep restarting my system as often as it's possible.

Thansk for your support.

This instruction referes to XP. I am using Vista (unfotunately). Anyway if I'll go to ADVANCE tab there is no Nvidia Tab. The only thing nvidia related is GeForce 8600M GT Tab wit nvidia logo, where I can press on the button Start The Nvidia Control Panel. And the only thing nview related in that Nvidia Control Panel is the Setup Multiple Display function which deals with nview technology. But there isn't such a function like disable. There is just a ticked filed informing me that I am using single display. Thats all
