Two recent events brought me to my current dilemma. First, I upgraded my video card. I bought what I thought to be a reasonably priced mid-range card. I'm not a gamer; I just wanted to eliminate some of the jerking and hesitation my old card seemed to produce.
So I moved up to an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT w/ 512MB RAM.
Just so everyone understands, the card seems to handle a basic set up very nicely. However -
Second event - my company decided to upgrade everybody to flat panels, which meant I could bring back home my old flat panel which I had been using at the office.
This meant that, in addition to my spankin' new video card running my Acer 22" widescreen, I now had an extra 17" flat panel to work with. Naturally, I hooked it up, expecting to experience the joy of working with an expanded evironment.
However, what I have found is that running two monitors causes both of them to blink out - in other words, after some period of time (which can be hours or only moments) video freezes and then both screens go black. The system seems to be running, but video is gone.
Originally I thought that the card might be running hot, but the time when I started the system up after having it turned off for 8 hours, and seeing both screens go dark within 1 minute convinced me that was wrong.
I have the feeling that I am either doing something fundamentally wrong in my setup of the monitors, or that there is something about this card and these monitors that does not work well together.
Below is a description of the system I am running. If anyone could come up with an idea, I would truly appreciate it.
