Unable to join my own hosted game?

Network Error: Disconnected from Game Server

Whenever I try to host a LAN game, it keeps giving the message, "Network Error: Disconnected from Game Server." Now, I could understand if I created the game and no one could join, or not being able to join someone else's game, but not being able to join a game I created is throwing me for a loop. I followed theMonk's guide as best I could with no results. Anyone have any ideas or advice

That means one of two things.

1. Either you're not typing in the correct IP (192.168.xxx.xxx) in the "address" field on the second computer.

or

2. Something on the host computer (software-related) is blocking the LAN connection attempt.

I'm assuming you're trying to host from one machine in your home, and connect to it from another machine in your home which is connected to the same LAN?

Well, yes, but I can't even get to the point where I create the game on the host machine. I click "Create" and IMMEDIATELY get the error message. If I could create the game, but no one could connect, I might be able to puzzle out what to do next. Not even getting that far though? I've never had that happen before.

When you click "create" on the host, you immediately get the message on the same machine "you have been disconnected from the game server"?? Are you trying to do this through ICO?

No, just a LAN game between me and my dad. Haven't even touched ICO yet.

So, you're loading the game, clicking "multiplayer", then "create/host" game and immediately following that click you're getting booted back to the multiplayer menu with the message "disconnected from game server"?

I'd say, something on your system is blocking the game from "creating" the host.

Disable all security software on the host. (kill the processes in the taskmanage if necessary). You can leave the Windows Firewall on as long as you've placed the proper exceptions for SINS in the "exceptions".

Seems to me, the message you're describing should only appear on a "client" machine attempting to connect to the "host" and certainly not on the host just after you click "create" game.

If it's not something on your system "blocking" SINS from creating the "host", it could also be a corrupted TCP-stack (check the Technical FAQ stickied in the Technical forum for instructions how to fix that)
