Someone stoled my serial number...

and the support doesn't help me :(

I feel extremely traumatized while writing this post.

I bought a copy of the GC2 game a month ago. Due to my hectic schedule, I was only able to install it last Friday. After installation, I tried to register it online to obtain the updates, but the site told me that the serial number was already associated with another account.

Subsequently, I e-mailed the sales support personnel explaining to them about my problem. In the email, I enclosed a snapshot of the original game along with the serial number to demonstrate to them that I am in possession of the original copy of the game.

I am deeply disappointed with the response of the sales support personnel. They are reluctant in allowing me to use MY original serial number. They also refused to provide me with a new serial number or offer me a sensible solution to the problem.

The solutions they provided: either return the original copy of the game at the store I bought it from or play the game without the updates!

Is that how Stardock keeps its customer?

I believe someone was able to obtain my original serial number using a key generator and I, as a customer, who legitimately paid the full amount for the game is not going to be assisted.

This is ridiculous!

After two email interactions, they concluded that I could not update it. I cannot bring it back to the store since too much time has elapsed since I bought it. Stardock is not willing to help me resolve this issue. What am I supposed to do?

How do you bought it? Where do you bought it? I guess it is a retail box. Which version is it? GC2? GC2 gold? Is it brand new or a used one?

I think thats pretty pitiful. If you had the proper pics(Box, case with serial sticker still on, CD's, manual, ect.) they SHOULD issue you a new serial. I mean c'mon, it costs them nothing to do so, and refusing to do that, is horrible "support."

As Stardock doesn't support second hand copy, there need to a proof that he is the first owner of the serial id. Sadly, the Stardock policy on copy protection can be hijacked if someone is able to get access to a unregistred serial id and registring it first. Return policy by some store could do some damage if someone returns the game to a store saying "it doesn't work on my system" after having registred the serial id and that the store resell the product as a new one ...

That why it is very important to understand how and where (country, shops ..;) he as obtained his copy.

Which simply means...

You might be screwed.

You should have installed it, and tried to register it, in the time allotted within the return policy of the store that you bought it from.

@Peace Phoenix

I bought it in a shopping centre in Brescia, Italy. It is a retail box, GC2.
It was sealed and unopened, it has to be a new one (also because that shop doesn't sell used items)

Just because they don't sell used items does not mean that they don't re-shrinkwrap returned items and sell tham as new.

But, as geminisama said - I am glad it worked out for you, and I hope you enjoy the game.
