how many of our

kind know how to drown i wouldn’t expect you to understand anything i had to say in my defence

i fell into him like a lake and i drowned

just like that

i

wasn’t

even

trying

to swim

there was no point people say

when you’re drowning struggling ceases it becomes seductive somewhere something of you knows you’re dying

but

that

doesn’t matter

you just surrender go under

resentful

when strong arms drag you back up into the (gasping and spluttering) air

saving you

you express such gratitude of course you do would you be

crazy

to say it out loud ? i wanted to drown

that’s how it was

with him

my initial

fight

was heroic can’t recall why i bothered

his smallest gesture enclosed me and i wanted to see him changed roused my whole life i never saw

anyone so beautiful brown eyes soft skin long lashes such beauty how i wish i could paint draw something and

i

made

him

weak like

a parasite i wanted him so much i felt barely sane and my feeding on him was

endless i sat like a coiled spring and watched him it

frightened me no

denying that the confusion in his eyes made me burn made me open slowly like a flower was i dreaming … breathing … was that me that said those things as i lie

awake now i can

tell

you that i

couldn’t

help

it

that

given

the

choice

i

would

drown again and again and you

can

condemn me to some long long list of sinners held

in the

eternal

annals of your

chosen

god but you won’t find me weeping like

i told you i don’t expect you to understand because

there's

an ocean of me

dead deep below his surface now and he only feels me when i float

Would I be impertinent to call this a wet dream?

Would I be impertinent to call this a wet dream?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say yes.

Beautiful poem, mig. I loved it.

Fantastic ending, and I like the eccentricies of the spacing. Makes me feel like your words are being delivered with some difficulty, like taking a breath between thoughts that you're not quite sure how to adequately share...but I think you've succeeded.

If I may interpret: I find this a fine allegorical piece of one overwhelmed by co-dependence, questioning whether it's worth it to yield one’s individuality for the sake of a tenuous love. However, the fragility of the speaker cries out to be saved by the illusion that the lover will change, yet knowing her depth will never be understood. She nevertheless resigns herself to the shallowness of the relationship.

Sometimes the one you drown in has already drowned in you.... lost you, lost air, and lost the way home.

Under familiar skies, will she surface again? Where, When? Will he be there to see... will they be ready to drown again?

I have seen dead suns, perhaps, in your writing. The embers left after an intense burning, that float there, like your protagonist, in dense space, somehow mute in their distance from their initial consumption.

Amazingly, we can still feel the warmth, the agitation of real life somehow making words buzz and bump, effusing whatever it was that you go through… have been through.

Words to make the mouth shudder in its reading; make the body weak with the mind’s sustenance.

Thank you for nothing less than this transmutation, becoming language to understand yours, becoming insubstantial to understand your infinitesimal touch.
