GALCIV: First Official Update Released!

GALCIV: First Official Update Released!

The first update (or "patch" as people tend to call these things in the game industry) to Galactic Civilizations is now available.

Whether you purchased the game at retail or directly, just download Stardock Central from the downloads section and you should be able to see 1.01A.

Changes:
+ Some random events come later in the game.
+ Technology Trade United Planets issue nerfed
+ AI considers technology trade values more at lower intelligence levels
+ Crash bug in diplomacy screen hopefully fixed
+ Terraformer can be built
+ SDNet.lib updated for those who have had trouble submitting scores. Make sure you register with the metaverse.
+ Duplicate building of wonders / trade goods fixed
+ Added 2 new random events
+ Anti-Cheat methods beefed up
+ Metaverse submits difficulty level

There will be another update later in the week so unless any of these things look compellign to you, don't feel obligated to get it.

Though based on the posts, some of the changes to random events and the trade all tech UP issue will probably be good news to some.

If it helps anyone, I had the 'not seeing the update' issue too and tried the above tips with no effect.

I Registered GC again (put my serial number in as per the first time) and that sorted it out...

someone needs to answer this question: After downloading the 1.01a should the version in the top of the menu screen say 1.01a?

This question has been asked a few times but I haven't seen it answered yet. I downloaded it but mine still says 1.01. We need to know if it installed? Thankx.

I'd like to know if I downloaded the full 84 megs, but the game seems to run fine (multimedia and everything else), should I worry about it? I'm fine with leaving things as is if it doesn't matter in the end. I'm not experiencing any issues after the full download, AFAICT.

I don't have the option to update anything on Drengin.net. It only gives me the option to run or uninstall. Anyone know why that is?

i think i got the update...finally....it downloaded a file that was 1.03MB....but, the exe file still says 1.0.0.1

Is it supposed to say something else"

From what I've read elsewhere, when you click on the GalCive .exe and look at properties, it is *not* going to show your actual version number but only that version....for whatever reason, I don't remember.

To see your real version, you should look in your registry for HKey Local Machine (or something like that) and check the version number there. That will show the correct version.

Is this patch along with future patches going to be available in a stand alone version for those who dont wish to deal with the stardock_central.. drengin whatevernet.. enter name again... give us email or die... login or else... remember yet ANOTHER inet password kind of garbage? :)

This is the way I got the bonus pack and 1.01. Works like a champ.

'i think i got the update...finally....it downloaded a file that was 1.03MB....but, the exe file still says 1.0.0.1'

The galciv.exe file does not have an entry for the Windows executable version property. That '1.0.0.1' is a default string that Windows returns if it finds a null, or no version field at all.
