New sticky thread. What are some things you'd like to see put into Galactic Civilizations? Thanks!

Give minor races a face, it would definately add to the aesthetics.

Let me know the racial composition of a conquered planet, or at least which race originally settled it.

I know this would be a tough one, but it would be really helpful, to be able to look at my colony at a glance and see what buildings it has and what buildings it needs (MOO2.

The scenery of the planets looks cool, would it be possible to have more variation, like swamp world or jungle planet?

I'd like to see more espionage actions (such as Assassinate a key leader or planet a nuke on a planet).

A "Planet View" Button (a la CivIII). This wouldn't add much to the game, but it woudl add to aesthetics.

More game color for resources, improvements, anomalies, and esp. Wonders. It seems so boring to just have a basic description and a percentage for a Galactic Wonder!

Ships should not be rendered obsolete as easily. I like the earlier ideas about have a Dreadnought be really good against, say Capital Ships while a starfighter can evade it's guns and damage it (anyone see the first Star Wars, starfighters were actually cool).

On that note, maybe add some sort of characters or heroes or generals or something with customizable names and such. They could be ships or something.

Change ship names (did I miss this feature?). Instead of USS SurveryShip436, you could call it the USS...'Enterprise', perhaps...

Add to the actual conquering of systems. Maybe you could create land units or something to put into transports. Granted that they would not play much else of a role, but the only real idea you have of whats in a transport is a number of troops. Perhaps a battle cutscene for conquering a system.

Plus, you should be able to form temporary 'coalitions' or something to fight common enemies. This would save you from having to make peace with four or five different minor races plus the main races when they attack you, and you could just make peace with the one group (albeit, you would have to give up more than to just a single race, and you could specify when making peace who you give what to).

Lastly, perhaps at the end of like 1000 turns or something, if none of the major races are eliminated, a new alien power coudl arrive and declare war on all of you and be really powerful. This could be its own special victory, b/c you and the other aliens would have to rally together to fight the new enemy. It could be like "Saviors of the Galaxy" Victory...

Great game, you guys. Haven'y played anything else recently

Um. Don't know where to post this but I found a rather annoying loophole. I decided (for the fun of it) to buy the entire military of the Dregin Empire (by offering to pay about 5000 for 50 months + all trade goods and all tech I had). When I got their military (50+ battlecruisers, defenders, and tons of transports, + starbases), I took over all their planets. Since they were dead, I didn't have to pay them back. Is this supposted to happen? (I had 130 on diplomacy).

how about some sort of auto background diplomacy routines, because so many times a meaningless war will break out against you, and it obviously isn't going to make or break the game, but is just an annoyance that you have to wait a few turns before you can ask for peace. what if you could every turn have it automatically check that race for a peace treaty, and alert you immediately when they're willing to accept, instead of having to wait around and check for yourself, which is usually a lot later than when they were first willing to do it

Change scoring systems somewhat.
I think that players never can be penaltized by sending low score games.

Say, why RGibson has a score of 38499 and RayChua has a score of 21523 with best 1 game score equal to 36126?

I think that it will be better if player score will be equal to Max(Sum(i)/Sqrt(i)) there i=1..N games and game score is sorted in descending order.

Sum(i)=Sum(GameScore(j)) there j=1..i

Drop out menus instead of cycling through the available Tech research and when cycling through the diffenent planet filter/sorting options. Also remember those options when. Every time I reload or start a new game I have to go change the Tech to show by Months Left and Cycle through all the planet sort options to get to Social Production.

Give a button to clear the turn event message window.

When trading with other races, I would very much like the ability to see the bc amount that the various goods are worth.

I hate trying to have to figure out how much another Civ is willing to pay for what I offer by trial and error. It's tedious and distracts from the fun of the game.

Certainly it would be reasonable to put an button to appraise the value of what is on either side of the table so that trading for the mostest is quick and easy.

I would like to see new techs to be able to terraform planets with low classes up to 15 or higher even. It just seems wierd to me that you can trancend existance but you can't turn a wasteland into something livable.

I would also like to see wasted production dissapear. it seems if you spend a lot on social production and you have some planets with everything built on them they still put their budget toward social instead of milary or research. those are my biggest problems and they are still only minor gripes.

i forgot to mention a what will you give me for this... and a what do you want for this... button when speaking to other races.

A direct way to allocate the military/social/research production instead of having to click the arrows 2-3 times to change %1. I know that I can move the pointer arrows, but that usually moves it alot. Allow directly typing in a value. Perhaps, take out the % values and just put the actual cash value allocations there.

Related, but different:
Please show the effect of the changed values. I can see the cash change up in the top right, but thats basically useless with out knowing how it changed my times to completion. Update the build times on the planet list whenever there is a cash value change in a production. Also It would be great to just show the turns to next discovery on this page so I don't have to keep flipping between pages with every little twist of money allocation. If you put the actual cash values below the sliders instead of the % then you could use that extra space up top to show turns to next discovery.

Thanks

Game setup option to slow down tech research speed (50% slower, 100% slower, ect.).

I want (in addition to all the other things I've asked for :)) the new government type popup to work even when you trade for the tech that allows the higher form of government. In one game I went straight from the Republic to the highest government type because I traded for the one in the middle without realizing it (typical "give me all your tech and some of your money for these *HOT* techs of mine" type deal).

Not sure if this would be possible but:

Could the graphic change when a starbase is full of modules? Maybe different flashing lights or something? Just saves having to check the starbase before sending a constructor.

Oh yeah, and another thing:

Cloaked Sensor Drones

yeah, baby. Do not underestimate the sneakiness.

I have not checked the previous posts whether this was already suggested:

improved trading:

I offer race X the tech A,B,C and d bc for n month (or any other combination of things I have to offer (ships, trade goods, etc. )) and I want Y and Z from you. Now I get a reaction from the race which is not just "yes" or "no" but indicates how far from reaching a bargain my offer was. (this is a little bit like the frowning oder smiling faces in the Civ3 diplomacy screen)

I offer race X the goods D, E and F and now I can ask them "What are you willing to give me for it?" and the race presents a list of things which they would give me for it. (Currently the player selects the things he wants from their list.) Then one could start bargaining, I could increase my offer and add the trade good G and ask them again "What about my increased offer?" etc.

I would like to be able to submit resigned games to the metaverse.

Some things that probably have been said here:

- Autopiloting ships waking up when an enemyship appears in sensorrange. Especially annoying is when a surveyship starts attacking a dreadnought on its autosurveyroute.
- Please make resources stay visible on the map if anyone builds a starbase on it. I use pen and paper to keep track of them now.
- A sentry/guard option for constructors would be nice.

That's all i can think of now :)

Snuis, you can submit resigned games to the metaverse. Just resign by giving all your systems to your favorite alien. That's how I got the glorious loss on my record! (And hopefully tipped the scales against those $%#&* Drenigan when the computer finished the game on its own.)

So that this isn't off-topic here are some more suggestions:

- Fix how the AI calculates military strength (see other threads on this topic).

- Have ships have full sensor range even when in orbit. (With the Eyes my ship sensor range is greater than that for the planet, so I need to pop it out of orbit to see if anybody is coming).

- Most important: don't break a great game! This game is great because of the AI and the lack of micro-managing. So focus on making the AI even better and fix scouting, coordinating large fleets and groups of constructors so that it is more automatic.

(This is the only 4X game where I have not yet been tempted to load a save game because of some unfortunate event! That alone makes it better than any other one I've played.)

I would like to see, after having seen the latest poll on the galciv home page, a button beside the win conditions in setup, labelled 'advanced...'

In the popup screen that would then appear, you'd be able to set who can win by what victory condition, perhaps with the following options: player/specific races/all computer players/all.

Default button that resets victory conditions to the state they are now: everybody can win by culture or military but only the human player can win by technology.

More setup options *drool*

And this gets rid of the beef I have about not being able to choose whether computer players can win by technology or not. Imagine the drengin only able to win by culture and set to evil and the altarians, goody two shoes that they are, set to good alignment and only able to win militarily, while the human player *must* seek a cultural victory (no other option to win by)... all in the same game! - Or... things as they already are.

:)

As for the wasted production. Why not have a new ability called efficiency. The higher the efficiency, the greater percentage those wasted resources can be allocated to the next project or cash or something.

Alphabetize the military govenor's lists of ships.

Add scrollbars to the military govenor's lists of ships.

Full screen version of the minimap.

Don't listen to all the complaints about wasted resources. Changing it would mean more micromanagement, of which there is enough already, or risking problems and imbalances with the AI players.

Fix whatever it is that is causing valid games to end up as Anomalous and with a score of zero on Metaverse. Happened to me twice now. No mods, no cheating, not even any cheese.

Yes plz add some sort of constructor ability to make bases on crappy planets to either boost BCs or research or influence so that all them other colored starts have a reason to exist and make it so you can put military ships in orbits of not inhabited systems to guard them agianst colonization.

Here's one I think should be fairly easy to implement and the AI should be able to deal with (and heck, even have a personality/predisposition toward it).

It has been said that custom ships can wreak havoc on the AI. Too many options for them to worry about. Well, my proposal is thus:

Ship classes have a number of "points" to be allocated between attack and defense. A ships in the same class have the same number of hit points. As an entirely hypothetical example, you get the battleship technology. This class ship has 40 points to spend on attack defense. I decide I need a defensive ship--10 attack/30 defense. I also need an offensive on 30 attack/10 defense.

To limit the swings on the values, each class could have a minimum attack and defense. In the previous example, that minimum might be 15 giving me only 10 points extra to put into the respective military attributes.

Something happened to me in last nights game that I think could use a tweak.

I was allied with the Drengin, and they were at war with the Yor. I got pulled into the war, because of my alliance. I didn't want war, I wanted to break the alliance... shouldn't I get a chance to break instead of going to war?

Likewise, it would be neat if the break or forming of the alliance would be voted by senate. And going to war because of an alliance was voted by senate.
