Getting GalCiv Betas

Our story so far...

Last night we released GalCiv 1.02Z beta. Because of the way the secure network system is set up, only Drengin.net users can access GalCiv builds that are labeled as beta. We'll have a non-beta version of this new update in a few days. Rather than having betas done purely internally (which is what we did with 1.01 and 1.02) we think it will work better of a sub-set of players get to try them out first before they're unleashed on the general public.

Our schedule is to release a beta of GalCiv 1.02Z for this week to work out kinks and then release 1.03 on Stardock Central next week and then next month release another stand alone build.

What we've also done is make it so that anyone who has GalCiv and would like to upgrade to Drengin.net can do so here:

http://www.galciv.com/upgrade.asp

It's only $30 to upgrade. But to make it even more enticing, those reading this post can get a $10 discount on it by entering in this coupon code when they get into the actual store:

Drengin Coupon Code: DN-43003

In addition, we've changed it so that when you buy Drengin.net you not only get GalCiv and The Corporate Machine and LightWeight Ninja and Stellar Frontier and so on, but you'll get any new games we make for the next year and a half. That would mean that you'd probably get (better get) The Political Machine (new political strategy game). Existing Drengin.net users are getting another 6 months automatically added on as well.

Have fun!

One other thing: The coupon is only good for upgrades before the end of this month.

Does that coupon expire? I'd like to do this upgrade within the next couple of weeks, but wanted to know if I had a TIME limit.

Now, hopefully, nobody of the drengin.net buyers in the past will start complaining they paid 10 bucks more than anyone who's going in now before May 1, 2003 ? ;)

"Now, hopefully, nobody of the drengin.net buyers in the past will start complaining they paid 10 bucks more than anyone who's going in now before May 1, 2003?"

Doesn't it work out to be a bit more expensive? I can't be bothered doing the math at the moment. :)
I'm a drengin.net sucker/subscriber, but I won't complain. I'm just happy to be able to play the game again after having to do a clean install of Windows! :)

I'm not complaining. I just got an extra 6 months that weren't included when I paid for it.

Is there any chance of paypal being accepted for payments?

Ok, I tried the GalCiv to Drengin.net update with the coupon discount, but how do I tell Stardock Central that I am now a Drengin.net subscriber? Normaly you have to type in you serial number but there was none. In the email is says "No serial number required". If I ask Stardock Central to lookup all my serials there is no Drengin.net serial.

So what is the trick?

Lemme ask.

Okay, just checked, you should be getting a Drengin serial #. They're looking into it, should be fixed in an hour or so.

Which will work out because the new beta won't be ready until this evening.

I'm probably lost, but I heard there was an expansion pack coming out for GalCiv one of these days, If I get a Drengin.net account will it also cover the (ficticious?) Expansion pack?

Gents, "having known" Brad for almost a decade (since GC for OS/2 V1.03...), belive me, he'll surprise you with good things like the 6 extra months. :CONGRAT:

Brad, BTW, need to make a present to my brother with Drengin.net What will I pay and what will he get?
Beside DN code I also have one GC code... Can I use the upgrade from the second one?
Thanks, Gherardo

..."Beside DN code I also have one GC code... Can I use the upgrade from the second one?"...

....I was meaning, we know how we got it, do you fairly think we can fully use it & upgrade from it?

Let me know also in the mail (apreciated...) :)

Rats, too poor. Grad student life is that way. ;)

Oh well, I'll have fun with the slightly less often (but still pretty amazingly often) other updates.

G: My brain is a bit slow today, I'm not sure what you mean.

Re expansion pack: Essentially, with Drengin.net you get any games Stardock does during that time.

The expansion pack will be available to all GalCiv players (drengin and non drengin) for free.

I have Drengin for the full price so it's time to complain then!

...

Well, since I've had nothing but fun with GalCiv (and the Corporate Machine) let's not complain after all :D

The new build of 1.02Z beta is now available on Drengin.net

If all goes well, this will become 1.03.

Has the problem with Drengin.net upgrade been worked out. I purchased it this afternoon. The e-mail I got back said no serial # needed but, on stardock, it looks like one is needed to register it.

It should be settled by now. Drop an email to [email protected]. You can tell him I sent you. ;)

So what is the scoop with patches for Drengin-purchased games vs. standalone purchased GalCiv? One of the SD folks originally said you'd only get patches for a year through D.net, which was kind of disturbing given that I'm used to installing games years later and grabbing whatever patches have come up (Diablo 2, for example, which is still patched periodically). Then someone else amended that to say if you bought the game standalone, that something would be worked out so that all GalCiv 1 patches would be available regardless of timeframe, and that sounded good. So, if I upgrade GalCiv to D.net, do I lose any patches that come out over a year from now? What happens if I lose my GalCiv CD three years from now and want to reinstall from SDC, will I be able to do that?

Just a note that probably means nothing: I broke down to the temptation of this offer and upgraded to Drengin.net but the 18 month deal is not coming through, the expiration shown is only 12 months from now.

Reference reply #22: I've had no reply. I have receipt for purchase of Drengin.net upgrade from GalCiv retail, but still no serial number. Hitting look-up number in dialog box results in e-mail saying no serial number necessary. Meanwhile, no change in Stardock: no beta GalCivs showing up as available. Is this just a matter of someone sending me a serial# and, if so, could someone at Stardock please do that?
