Couple of Victory questions.

first of all, is there a way to view the percentage complete for the 4 victory conditions without clicking "menu" at the top. isn't it in stats or something in the actual game so i dont feel like i'm going to the options menu to check?

also, more importantly, i tried my first game the other day and went for a cultural victory. i have tons of influence. well i'm sposed to have 90% of the map. well, i've reached it a couple of times, but the game still goes. do i have to hold that percentage for 2 yrs or something? and if i get interrupted and fall below 90, do i have to start my 2 years all over when i reach 90 again? or am i just all confused about this, lol...

by the way i check the manual and a couple other websites for this info with no luck. thanks!

It's been mentioned that you have to be at peace in order to start the 12 month cultural timer (yes, it isn't an instant win, but it does tell you when the timer starts), but I'm not sure of that. I'm not sure it's wrong either.

Is it just me, or does 90% seem to a bit high? I mean, when you have that much influence every star system will tripping over their feet defecting to you and you probably have military control over most of the galaxy as well. So is it not in fact conquest victory with slightly new clothes? Kind of feels that way to med at least... :notsure: Maybe 75% would be more reasonable?

Man, this place needs an edit and a preview function! I'm not going to bother pointing out my mistakes in the above post as they should be fairly obvious. ;p

You can win a cultural victory without assimilating all of the other races - if you *do* assimilate them all, you'll get a conquest victory.

Yeah, but how do you get your culture to dominate 90% of the galaxy without at the same time controlling a vast majority of the star systems in those sectors through defections?

It depends on how fast your cultural buildup goes. If you just start sending out a lot of constructors to build culture starbases, its possible to get the culture victory without a single planet defecting to you.

Ok, I can see that I guess. At least in 1.02, but with the nerfing of cultular starbases coming in 1.03 (the farther away from one your systems it is, the less effective it is) I think that's going to become alot harder, at least on the larger maps.

Well, even with the party and culture palace nerfing in 1.02, it needs more nerfing. I should need to do more than build a starbase with 16 constructors in a given sector to make the systems topple over to my empire.

That isn't to say that such toppling isn't *fun*.
